We love the Royal York
It was wonderful as usual.

The Fairmont Royal York, Toronto
A 4 Star hotel with 2.5 Star service on this trip
Had 2 bad mistakes from the hotel, and a 3rd now compounding it. When you stay at a hotel, they have a few jobs, one is to have a great bed, they got that part right and when Toronto is super freezing cold -29 F you have warm rooms. They got that part right as well. Here is how they blew it with me on two occasions. 1) They called my room and woke me up after they thought I had loud music or a TV on when I was dead asleep after checking into the hotel at 1 am being on PST, they woke me up but then realized the music or noise was coming from somewhere else. Totally ruined my initial day in Toronto when I am not on the time zone already. They offered some compensation, but not really a good answer to why security couldn't figure out that no noise was coming from my room and why they blew it with the room number. They said that they would have the GM or the Guest Services supervisor call me on the following Monday when they returned to the hotel and now it is Tuesday in Los Angeles and they still haven't followed up. Right now the hotel is getting a multi million dollar face lift, its an old property with an amazing location. So the normal restaurant is not open, the Library Bar is used for breakfast right now. Food is fine, service is poor. Wouldn't clear the dishes in a timely manner and they pre-selected on the comment card that the service was excellent as well as other high marks. Truly that was very lame. Everyone has a bad day, but not Fairmont standard service.

Worth it
Amazing. They went over and beyond what I expected. The bathrooms are a bit small, but still have a luxurious feel. It's a great combination of history and modernity.

Expected more from the royal york
Booking in was horrible, bad traffic, delays in parking, people begging for money only to check in, go to the room and find the key cards don’t work. Frustrating!!! Then a overboard birthday party and creepy party goers forced us to move to another room.
