4/10 Fair

When we arrived we were told that we had been given a room upgrade. But, the view we had was of a flat roof and a wall, the room apart from its size was nothing special. This is a lovely hotel so we were a bit disappointed. We went up to the restaurant for dinner but it’s open to the roof at both ends it was cold and windy and the food was not great. At 6.15 am the next morning we were wakened by a window cleaner clanking about. He was standing on the roof right outside our window. When we went to get breakfast we were told the restaurant was closed on a Tuesday? Really, there was no indication of that when we booked. We managed to find something in town. When we checked out the very nice receptionist asked if we’d like her to call the manager to speak to her. We declined we’d already spoken to the night receptionist who was also very upset with the window cleaners and had made notes on our file. Perhaps the manager should have told the receptionist to call her when we were checking out just as a common courtesy. Beyond disappointed.

UINQUE
There's no question about The Darling being kind of quirky, but we love that. It really is unique. The room was spacious and filled with natural light. The restaurant was amazingly good. The staff working at the hotel were all personable and intelligent. The hotel really has character and my wife and I liked it very much.

A Special Place
I stayed 2 nights in a queen bed room on lower level. Great, restored, vintage room, amazing. Staff was so helpful and welcoming from easy check in, dinner suggestions, getting me a work table in room. Rooftop restaurant was great, steak was good, but I'd order the scallops or pork chop instead. Breakfast Eggs Benedict was best ever. I'm coming back!

Beautiful art deco style hotel in downtown Visalia. They have a nice restaurant/bar on the top floor and the whole ambience makes you think you’re in a lux roaring 20’s hotel. I love it!
