Uncomfortbale
it was an uncomfortable stay. arriving to hotel, the streets not only smelled but they were infested with trash and feces. once inside the hotel, it was lovely. looked nothing like the outside. Huge red flag: receptionist says not to park outside because cars get broken into by hotels. we decide to park inside with a 30$ charge! ((cheap compared to other hotels)) Room is tiny, it is San Fran, it was expected. I didn't mind that, what bothered me was looking out my window, I see a sea of pigeons on window, which is a small roof. Mind you, we were on the second floor. I heard them most of the night. Bed wasn't the best either. I wake up in the morning to find out I got 250$ charge from hotel. I run downstairs to try to understand as to why I was being charged an extra 250$. It was for incidentals, which I wasn't even told about. Turns out it was to be given back the money once I checked out, guess what I have a debit card, it will take 6-5 business days. I was down 250$ without them even telling me about it. on top of that I had to wait till after my trip to receive my money. I was lucky enough to have saved for the trip. although it hurt, I know there are people out there that stay in cheap places like this because they don't have much money, so a 250$ hold can hurt them. we left the minute we got the chance to. if anyone stays here, just make sure you have an extra 250$...

Think I will pass next time
The hotel is a bit tired and I wouldn't recommend it as a solo traveler. The sheets are aged. I don't think it will be a fit for me in the future. The location is good if you turn left, bad news if you turn right.

Would not ever stay at this hotel again. Really bad area. No air conditioning. No screens on windows so they could be opened since there was no air conditioning.

Dwindling Metropolis
The front desk staff at the Metropolis are very annoying and vicious as far as asking what room you are in the second you walk through the door. It is very invasive especially because you need a room key to operate the elevator anyway. Rooms were very lacking in amenities -there were no microwaves, refrigerators or even storage spaces like dressers. Everything was old including the tv which had old-school hookups. I rarely do this, but I will not go to this hotel again.

Great location, affortable room
The location is great for transit connections. BART, MUNI Metro, the F-Streetcar, and the Powell-Hyde Cable Car are all within a five minute walk. The hotel and the room are more than adequate for budget travelers. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look like much, but once inside, you see that this is a quaint, old hotel that's been remodeled. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was adequate. The only thing that wasn't good was the free WiFi, which was pretty much useless.
