Shock & disappointment poor service @ desk upon ar
Hotel from the 40’s, slapped paint on walks, wrinkled bedding, (doubt if sheets were fresh)bathtub full of stains & aged. Jumbo shampoo out of a pump jar, & no bar soap available. No telephone in room, & questioned the lock on the door. One aged elevator for entire floor(several rooms) & mgr.available only @ neighbouring hotel. The fees charged were preposterous for the state of room & Hotel. Pictures available. Very disappointing to say the least.

Clean & great location for what it’s worth
This property was WAY overpriced, even during a huge conference like Dreamforce. The maids are probably the best thing here - they do a great job of keeping the room clean, but the room - even with a private bath (no time all have) - is more like a dorm room. The location is super convenient to Union Square, Moscone, the cable car. The worst part is that I was staying on the top floor and I had some sort of support beam going through my ceiling and I could hear a rat or rat(s) crawling about at various times through the night on the escape ladder and through that beam. I wouldn’t spend much more than $150/nt for a room with private bath - unfortunately my company paid more than 3 times that per night for me to stay there. Keep in mind that the property also has no AC & no luggage storage - you have to pay for that across the street.

It was all about the location which is amazing. There were roaches....the room was very bare bones...like the "Desk" was a piece of plywood bolted to the wall. However, the internet was fast. The front desk people were kind of grumpy at times. I asked to call me a cab they said "Sure" -- after 20 minutes I said -- any update? They just shrugged, so I walked myself outside and caught one. I asked for a receipt at the end of the stay, they said they could not get me one...which is unusual. Liked the location...and the bed was comfy...but again, roaches..and not very clean. For $500 per night also...yikes.

I'm not sure if I would call this place a hotel. If you are in the city for 1-2 nights and just need a place to crash, this place is ideal because of its location, but don't expect any kind of extras. PROS: Location, cleanliness, you can choose between a private room with your own bathroom, or a shared room with shared bathroom down the hallway. Bed and pillows are comfortable. CONS: no A/C, and if you get a room facing Powell St. (to the East) during summer months, room gets too hot and stuffy (even with the window and door open). You only get 2 bath towels -- 1 per person, and NO washcloth / hand towel / bath mat. It's funny how hangers provided are from a store! (see picture). Also, if you need your luggage stored (before check-in or after check-out), you will need to go to another property, around the corner and across the street (about 300 ft. walk). They charge $2 dollars per bag. There is no early check-in, even if it's only half hour before official check-in (3pm). It all depends what your budget is and when you are going. I don't think it's worth the price we paid (4 months ago, we got a 5-star hotel for the same price), but compared to other places for the same dates, this was one of the few options for less than $200 dollars.

Problems with the heater. Very noisy at 6am. Called the manager and he wasn’t nice at all and didn’t offer to solve the problem or change the room. A lot of homeless people in front of the hotel.
