Real dump
This hotel is dump. They have renovated 3 old buildings but lobby and first one are fine but the one I stayed was horrible. Also linen was not clean and throw on bed was dirty as well. The room was small which is not an issue but it was so unfunctional. In order to open window one had to move 3 pieces of furniture. There was desk that one can not sit at. The faucet was so close to sink that I could barely wash my hands without touching faucet. When I arrived at hotel there was no one to help me carry my suitcase on stairs leading to hotel. Initially I was sent to room that didn't exist on the floor they sent me. Then they sent me to somewhere through narrow hallways with many stairs and I was the one asking them to help me carry suitcase. I'm afraid many hotels think that if they purchase a few pieces of Antics for Lobby and paint walls in grey, that qualifies them as Butique. This was a total dump. Pictures are not accurate. I rebooked my ticket and left 1 day early.

Would recommend with slight hesitation...
At check-in, I was impressed. Upon getting to my room, I was happy. Sleeping, however, I had concerns about the noise. I didn't put my earplugs in because the door was solid and heavy -- I didn't realize it would let so much sound in. I could hear people coming/going at 3am. Every step, sound uttered in the halls, and the doors. How is that possible? I have good ear plugs so it didn't bother me the night after, but I definitely lost some quality sleep the night before. Other that than, I thought everything was good for what I paid for. It is in a great location.

Convenient and modern find, but noisy!
We just returned from a 5 night stay in Amsterdam at Hotel Vondel, where we stayed in a souterrain room. The room was clean, comfortable, and modern. The bathroom was great, with modern fixtures, comfortable towels, a rainfall showerhead, and heated floors. The location was generally quiet - it was very close to the museums and the De Pijp neighborhood with a great deal of restaurant options, and almost everywhere we needed to go was within a 20 minute walk - no public transit needed. The only reason I am giving Hotel Vondel 3 stars was our room was EXTREMELY noisy. I knew a souterrain room would not be the quietest, but we were woken up every AM around 5/6 AM to staff in the courtyard area throwing out trash (at least that's what I think - think pots and pans banging around every AM to wake you up - it was SO LOUD), what sounded like elephants running around upstairs, etc etc. I'm usually an early riser, but we were out late several nights and it was AWFUL to have that early wake-up call. If you are a light sleeper and really need a good night's rest, I wouldn't advise staying here.

Great location
The reception and restaurant was very nice and had a "boutique hotel " feel. The room was fine but could use a little maintenance on the walls. The walls must be very thin because on occasion I could hear people as if they were in the same room. This only happened a few times. The location in the museum district was perfect. Close to everything but not in the midst of all the crowds.
