Plaza Resort & Spa, Daytona Beach
Don't Believe Them Stars!
This is a terrible hotel with an unfriendly unwelcoming staff located in a terrible part of Daytona beach, which it turned out is a pretty run down part of Florida. The hotel was a construction site, it was the topic of everybody in the hotel. From 9 am to late afternoon you could not be in your room, and the banging was everywhere, including at the pool. To "compensate" you were handed a voucher for one of a miserable breakfast buffet, you still had to pay tax and tips, which made it totally worthless. Another major problem was elevators, everyone were waiting for them all the time. People would take an elevator with room going down, even if they were going up. Parking garage was always full, and totally unprotected, you can easily get mugged. And the neighborhood is quite sleazy, if you walk out at night you have strip clubs and drunk people all over, not exactly a family place. The beach is not nice at all, you have cars driving out right next to the hotel, and big crowds of very noisy and intimidating youth would gather, not very family friendly. The staff was dealing with very unsatisfied guests all day long, and was unfriendly and unwelcoming. They also were cleared understaffed, making for long lines and bad service. This hotel is without a doubt the worst hotel we ever have stayed in, we chose it because it is hailed as a 4 star, but even if it was not a construction site, it is dated and run down, and located in a shady part of Florida. 1 star please!

Great getaway
Enjoyed the hotel and the friendly staff. The bed was not very comfortable. There is some construction going on but the hotel staff make up for any inconveniences with their friendliness and willingness to help.

The room was perfect. The only thing was the bathroom very small compared to the rest of the room. I would give it a 9 out of 10 just for this reason...

Down and out in Daytona
The Plaza is in a great location. The staff is friendly, but not particularly competent. The front desk was manned by multiple people, but only 1 person apparently allowed to do anything - help guests, answer the phone, etc. (i.e. ridiculous wait times nearly always). Our first floor room had no lock or lock bar on the slider, and the "fix" involved partially set screws into the lock mechanism and a bar complete with electrical tape. Our room was comfortable, but the extra blanket had a long forgotten gummy bear and several towels had chocolate remnants. The hotel was under noisy construction (9-5, M-Fr), for which we were compensated 2 free breakfasts during our 4-day stay (we had 4 guests in our room). The parking garage was partially closed, rendering parking an adventure each day. Given the rich history of the hotel and its fantastic location, a real shame. We will not be returning.
