My Portland Marriot Experience
Even though I am a Marriot Rewards member, the staff told me on three separate occasions when I requested anything that 'I had booked third party' and then my treatment became less than stellar. I paid $640 for two nights, so I don't think that I booked a cheap room or anything. Anyhow, the room smelled like athlete's foot and I requested another room the next morning. I was given the old 'third party' story and then told the room would receive VIP cleaning. It did not. When I returned that night, there was still bottles and debris all around and the smell remained. Whomever I would call at the front desk talked down to me like he was some kind of millionaire that I am sure he is not. There is no pool or hot tub and that is a negative. No breakfast. I hold a Marriot rewards card, but still had to pay for WiFi. Even coffee shops give WiFi for free. The Best things going for this place is the location and the bartender. I believe his name was Bradley. He is highly professional and does his job well. That place is lucky to have him and whoever hired him should hire more staff as professional, hard working, and down to earth as him.

DO NOT BOOK HERE !
We booked a room with a king bed and view thru Hotels.com. We've been using hotels.com forever and have always been very pleased. Upon check in, we were given a room on the 10th floor, with 2 full size beds and a view of a wall. When I called to the desk I was told since I booked thru a 3rd party, this was the room I was assigned. I asked if this was a capacity issue and was told no, its a booking thru a 3rd party issue. I contacted customer service at Hotels.com and the rep. agreed we had booked the larger room w/view and he called the front desk on our behalf. After a few minutes he came back on the line and said he was told the manager was busy and he could call back tomorrow. Since he was unable to correct the issue, Hotels.com refunded us the $ we paid out for the room. It's why I will continue to use Hotels.com instead of dealing with broken down, archaic chain hotels. One footnote to this story.....please note the hotel itself is NOT that nice or historical or in fact that great of a property to have the arrogance it projects.

Okay experience, great location
It's was okay. The beds were smaller than the queen advertised, no free wifi was a bummer and I would of paid for Internet but found it too expensive when I can go next door to Peets for a coffee and free internet. Front staff were friendly and helpful. The most unfortunate thing was the valet staff who were selective on who they opened the doors for. It felt awkward at times when they completely bipassed us to get the door for people behind us leaving us pushed aside. I would hate to think it was because we were all young minorities but it certainly felt like that.

Valet parking was ridiculously expensive. No free wifi in rooms. The rooms are very comfortable. Comes with fridge, coffee maker, safe.

Careful for bait and switch room
Be careful here. The room you get likely won't look like the pictures. We complained and they moved us, but there was no guarantee and the room they loved us to was only slightly better/larger. You also can't have any guests after midnight, unless you walk outside and let them in. You at least have to go to the lobby, as every floor is restricted to guests 24/7. The walls are paper thin, and management said that we were too loud at 1130 on a Saturday night, when we were watching tv.
