Quiet Location, Comfortable Bed, Nice View
The hotel and room exceeded our expectations. A small room with two single beds, room 212A was on the northeast corner and overlooked the lovely members-only Queens Gate Gardens. Only one block from busy and noisy Cromwell Road but very quiet. Terrific location for museums, easy Tube access, many dining choices, Tesco and Waitrose quick grocery options, and a short walk to Hyde Park. Both the exterior and interior of the hotel are lovely and charming. We arrived early but there was a room available for us, and otherwise we could have stored our luggage and gone on to our museum destinations of 5-10min walk away. Our room was small with only one chair and limited space for luggage - and we expected that based on other reviews - but the location, comfort, view, bathroom, charm, and cleanliness more than made up for whatever negotiations we had to make to get around each other when moving around the room. Nice selection of toiletries in a clean and relatively spacious bathroom. We did not visit the restaurant, bar, or have much to do with staff other than check-in - which was excellent - but I can imagine that the service is good and friendly here. The elevator is TINY, so it's pretty much 2 people with luggage at a time, but the stairs are easy and wide. I spent a long time choosing this hotel over the others in the area at a similar price and I am so glad this was my choice. I would definitely stay here again.

Good
Duke of Strathmore's former home
I was surprised that the hotel had no air conditioning. My family member asked for a portable one, and they did get one. The bar had a problem with the beer giving too much head each time my husband went to order. We had no bath mat in our room, and this could have been very dangerous. I never got around to asking for one, but let them know when we left. There was no bureau to put clothes in, just a closet with about 10 hangers. The room was roomy, though, and we were able to leave the window open all the time with no bugs entering. Also, I appreciated very much that he front desk approved a continental breakfast for us, even though we booked through hotels.com. They made it extremely convenient for us not to have to move into a second room, as was originally planned, for the last two nights of our stay. We loved the location of this place, and the staff people were very nice.

Fair
First they put us in a basement room with absolute minimal natural light and a very small window straight towards the pavement with passing cars. When we kindly asked for another alternative we were offered a tiny tiny tiny room on the attic, sure there was natural light but two persons could hardly fit in there, it smelled old and the bathroom ceiling had significant mold growth. The only person available to even speak to us was a "trainee receptionist" who said these were the only two alternatives, even if neither one of them resembled the description of the room we have booked. Extremely disappointing experience, will recommend all my friends to never stay at this hotel.

Very Good
historic hotel near hyde park
great location in trendy Kensington, hotel had plenty of old English ambience a royal pedigree and caring staff. We walked to two famous museums plus Kensington palace. Easy walk to underground station as well. Our room was air conditioned which was great as London experienced record heat that week. Not all rooms are air conditioned so if important request when booking. We loved the people of London and enjoyed the "must see" sights. The highlight was being admitted to visitors gallery of house of commons and lords. Don't go to visitors line if interested, go to business entrance and beg (good luck).

Good place but small rooms and bathrooms
Great location and a pretty property. Staff were very helpful and efficient. Room as adequate but small. Bathroom was very clean and functional. It was just very very small and this could only be a 4 star hotel in Europe. The room was just too small. The shower was great. But only Because I am relatively thin. An overweight person would have troubles turning around in the shower. They might even get stuck in there. I understand that space in nice parts of London is hard to come by, but the shower is too small. If you are not thin, you will have problems with this room.
