Fair 4.0
Only a good location. Bad service, poor rooms.
I stayed there for 2 weeks and I really regret having done so. The rooms were not designed for people staying more than one night. It is probably a good bet if you need to sleep between 2 flights and don't wanna go far from the airport but definitely not an option for anyone willing to stay for more than that. Rooms do not have safelocks, they charge extra for parking and for every breakfast. My room fridge was always off and empty. My TV would not work and fade away after 5 minutes getting darker and darker little by little. This was never solved within my 14 days of stay. The supposedly "high-speed" internet was awfully slow. I called frontdesk and they told me it was not common. Again, nothing changed in 2 weeks. There are 2 girls at frontdesk who were just pissed off all the time, pulling faces when I spoke to them and giving looks one another when I asked for help for the issues mentioned above. I know my English is not perfect as I am not native, but if they cannot stand talking to a foreigner, then they probably should not work at THE FRONTDESK of an hotel that is next to an INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT! I really felt discriminated and bad for this situation. I did interact with many people along my trip and most of them were able to understand me without frowning or getting angry. The hotel gives $5 vouchers per day if you ask not to have your room cleaned. I saved 6 of them but when I tried to used them on my checkout they said I should have used each after each breakfast.

Good 6.0
My first room had the carpet coming apart at the seems large scratches in the floor had a worn look and smell about it , it smelled like carpet fresh , I was offered another room I rejected the offer until I took my dinner up there and change my mind , I was give better room except my food was cold by then and wasn’t all that great warm but barely adequate cold and soggy in the take out container , there staff is very friendly and the a little pricey for what you get , I paid 224 dollars with tax and it two dollars to drink a bottled water providing in the room , I would of thought a little something like a breakfast on them would been enough for my inconvenience of being placed into a dated room when I paid full price in a Hilton hotel , a little disappointed and will try a different chain of hotel my next travels, I do travel east coast to west coat round trip about six or more time a year.

A Tombstone in the Gateway Blvd Hotel Graveyard.
This somewhat dismal stretch of Gateway Blvd can be thought of as the equivalent of the airliner graveyard in the Arizona desert, and the HGI building, which in its previous incarnations may have been tolerable in its heyday, is a worn-down hotel with some lipstick and a overly obsequious handshake, surviving only because of its proximity to Genentech and a business corridor with a shortage of modern hotels. The rooms have wall/window-style heaters/AC and a somewhat poorly-engineered digital control panel. Room decor is somewhat new, but low budget, the lighting is especially atrocious, garish and ill-thought, as are the hallway lights, overly bright like some Barton Fink reverse nightmare. There is a lobby bar/restaurant, in the HGI vein; cheap, fast service with an emphasis on breakfast. The common areas are far less dismal, and if the rooms had even 50% of that flair, I would give this place 4-5 stars. I like to work in my room, as I take calls and just like the solitude...if you're like me, look elsewhere. The AC is close and awesome, and the Embassy Suites, though with an older re-fresh, has much nicer rooms.

Very Good 8.0
Excellent gym for a hotel.
This was a very nice hotel close to the Caltrain station, but there was nothing else of note in the local area. All hotels in San Francisco are very expensive, but I booked this hotel at the last minute for a reasonable price considering the area. It contained an excellent gym for a hotel, which was the main reason I booked here :-) ! . The room was a good size and contained a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and free Wi-Fi. The pillows were comfy, and the bathroom was nice (with a bath :-) ). Disappointingly there was a very limited choice of television channels available, and nothing that I wanted to watch when I wanted to relax. The hotel staff were very pleasant but not particularly helpful. There was a regular free shuttle bus to and from the airport which was very useful :-) ! I would definitely consider staying here again :-) !

Poor 2.0
No better than a mediocre motel
Severely disappointed, conditions below par, can't believe what they charge in comparison to the quality of the hotel, staff and the so called restaurant. Food was terrible, staff was okay at best, the manager himself called me sir more than once, even after being corrected (short hair, really? women don't have short haircuts?) Furniture in room banged up and cover with tape or cheaply spray painted. Hair in tub, complained only to have it lightly wiped out with a damp rag. it should have been scrubbed out with a scouring pad and a cleaning agent. Blood or ketchup on the sheets, disgusting. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
