Charming and Central
Centrally located, almost across the street from Cal. The decor is charming. I like the older style of bathroom with an actual tub. Wifi could be better.

The Graduate -- a solid "C"
I travel to the Bay Area every week and try to stay in a different hotel. This is the first hotel that I've stayed out in Berkeley -- and it was a bit of a different experience then what I normally have. The positives: Berkeley has a lot of inexpensive restaurants and bars located close to the hotel; in fact there is a decent bar attached to the restaurant (which turned out to be very useful since it was pouring most of the visit). The hotel was relatively clean, if a bit dated, and the windows were completely soundproofed -- so no noise from neighboring dorms. The negative -- the hotel itself is about .75 miles from the BART station, so it was a slog (especially in the rain). Berkeley in general has a very high population of homeless, so plan on being repeatedly accosted in any walk around town. The biggest negative however had to do with the soundproofing inside the hotel -- it was awful. My neighbor's snoring kept me awake most of the night. And I got the opportunity to hear every business call he made until he fell asleep. Definitely not good.

Great access to University
The hotel is a remodeled 1920s era building, formerly known as the Durrant. The rooms are small, but clean and stylish. The on site restaurant was overpriced, but there are a ton of student-oriented eating locations within a short walk. Best feature is the proximity to UC-Berkeley's campus - literally a block away. If I was returning for business at the University, I would certainly stay here again.
