Avoid while under construction and even after mayb
The hotel is under renovation and honestly should have shut down until it’s complete. There are no bathrooms accessible to the pool/beach/lobby only your room. We were run out of common areas due to workers working in them. The air in our room was barely working even though it was a renovated room. It was so hot and humid and miserable at night. We decided to extend our stay but chose to pack up and move to another hotel because of all the inconvenience at this one. We are now at a hotel with the same room price that is 10x better. The rooms were clean and staff was nice but I won’t be staying here again I doubt.

Refurbishment is annoying, but the place is nice.
There's a lot of work being done and the place will be AWESOME when it is all done, but until then, just know there will be inconveniences. We had water shut off one night to the entire hotel, and while plumbing was active by the time people were awake, hot water did not return until 9 am. No fitness center :-( during renovation. There's only one elevator during renovation, so most people took the stairs rather than wait. There's a lot of work being done to individual rooms too, our 3yo son napped at 2 pm right thru a lot of banging and sawing next door (lil dude was tired). I woke at 4 am one morning to sawing metal nearby. Painting is constant, so you need to watch your steps to avoid drips and smudges. The odor of fresh paint is barely noticeable. All that being said, the breakfast spread was ridiculously fantastic despite being crowded (again, renovations), the pool had just been reopened, and our room itself was newly renovated, still smelled faintly of mud and tape when we arrived. To top it off, the reason we stayed here was the short walk to the beach. Amazing. No sand in your vehicle, no long walk to get there, just head downstairs and out the back gate. We balked at the price, especially when hotels literally the other side of the road went for less than half, but we realized that being able to walk right down to the beach without crossing a road was so very valuable. Contact the hotel directly to ask stage of renovations for the days you plan to book.

Will Never Stay Here
The hotel was doing renovations to the rooms, lobby, outside, and it was hard to get in the front entrance. It was dirty looking, overall. We didn't know until the day we had reservations, around noon, that our room would not be ready. We had traveled 10 hours just to get to the hotel.... They tried to get us to stay at another hotel, where they were doing renovations to their pool. I told them no and persisted that they get us a room there since they waited so late to let us know. They finally got us a room with a pull out bed and a king bed. But, we had to wait for it to be cleaned. After waiting down at the pool area, where they were also doing renovations (painting the building) for two hours, they said that they had our room ready. I was pretty patient until this point. But, when I got to the room, there was no pull out bed. Just two chairs and a king size bed. We had two adults and two kids and this would not work. And, my 72 year-old mother had to use a port a potty while waiting on this room. They would not even let her use the hotel bathroom. Bad service, rude staff. Will never stay here!!!! We left ant went down the road to a different hotel. When I told them our story, they gave us a room with a large balcony view of the strip and ocean. No extra charge. Shame on you, Holiday Inn Express Orange Beach for your awful service.... Pitiful.... The only good thing that I saw of the hotel was the pool.

The hotel is going through construction. It's very loud and to get to the beach you have to walk right through the construction. The rooms were okay but could use updating and a little better cleaning. We went back a week later and got a nicer hotel about four hotels down from the hang out for the same price. Probably will not stay here again when we return. The workers were nice though!

Not so great
The water was off during the daytime the whole time we were there. When it was on in the evening, we either took no shower because there was no hot water or cold showers because being at the beach all day made us need showers. Most of the staff was friendly, but we had to request a blanket for the cold out couch three times. We finally got one but had to do without the first night. We probably won’t be back.
