First time in Beirut
My wife and I came to Beirut to attend our daughter's graduation from AUB. This was our first visit to the city. We had a nice, long stay and enjoyed the hotel. The room was spacious and we got a small peek of the Hamra skyline from our large 5th floor balcony. The service was good; our only complaint was that the car we had rented was scratched while parked on the street (the hotel does provide valet parking, but does not have a parking garage). We particularly enjoyed drinks in the Duke of Wellington bar. This is a fairly old hotel. It is nothing fancy, but for the price we felt is a good deal in a lively location near the American University of Beirut. The room was comfortable and the hotel provided laundry services. Our only complaint was that the curtains needed to be washed. Hamra is a very mixed neighborhood with lots of ongoing construction, and is a section of Beirut that has an active nightlife.

Outstanding Hotel in Excellent Beirut Location
This hotel was excellent in service and standards for Beirut. Just about everything was done well. The room was spacious, clean, well-appointed and serviced properly every day. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was also spacious and modern. All of the amenities one would expect at a 4-star hotel were there. The breakfast was also excellent with a nice variety of food and pastries to select from. All of the staff was friendly and helpful and responded quickly to any questions we had. The Internet was free in the room and very fast. It was a joy to get online every day. The Duke of Wellington lounge, on the ground level, is also a nice feature of the hotel. It has an active happy hour on Friday nights that many expats attend. The hotel is in an excellent location, being right in the middle of Hamra, but on a quiet side street. There are many restaurants and pubs close by and within easy walking distance. Unfortunately, many hotels in Beirut rated as a 4-star are in actuality a 3 or 2-star at best. The Mayflower is a legitimate 4-star hotel and deserving of its rating. I highly recommend this hotel.
