Divani Corfu Palace, Corfu Island

Older property in dire need of renovation. Room was worn though extremely clean, nice balcony view to the water but overlooking the airport runway so it's noisy early and late into the night. Room had two beds - a double and a twin. Double was not at all comfortable - thin with prominent coils - my wife and I actually took to the twin just to have a decent night sleep. Breakfast was included, quite a good selection with attentive friendly manager and wait staff. Front desk staff, unfortunately, was not as helpful. We asked them to arrange for a taxi to pick us up at a specific time and they wouldn't do it. Told us they could only make the call when we were ready and in the lobby then the taxi would arrive in 5 minutes. Ended up waiting more than 40 minutes. Worse, the two at the front desk also talked badly about foreign customers in Greek. When they realized we understood them, they tried to bring us in on their jokes. Not professional and we won't return. Plus, it's a long walk (40 minutes) from central Corfu town along a well-trafficked single lane road. Made for a few harrowing moments as buses and cars sped past.

The bathroom bathtub was too high off the floor and was not accessible to elderly or handicapped. There were no grab support bars in the bathroom. The main entrance to the hotel had no hand rails of any type leading to the reception area and elevators. The stairway by the pool area was also missing handrailing for support. The first floor steps leading to the bar and restaurant area was also missing any type of handrails. There was a damp musty odor coming from the carpet in the hallway.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for a week, and had a pleasant stay. We arrived at around 6 in the morning, and even though the hotel was fully booked and check-in wasn't until 14 they managed to get us a room ready at 9 in the morning. The room was an ok size for 2 people and the standard was as expected. The beds were a little hard for my taste, but my wife liked them. Even if we could actually see the airport runway from the balcony we could barely hear the planes from inside the room. We had breakfast included, and the selection was pretty standard with everything you'd expect from a breakfast buffet. Different breads, fruits, vegetables, meat, cheeses, egg, bacon, cereals etc. We had lunch a couple of times in the pool bar and the food was pretty good. We also had some drinks at the pool, and the bartender was very nice and friendly. Even though we had most of our meals in Corfu Town, we also tried the dinner buffet. The food at the buffet was good, but a little on the cold side. The maitre D, Theotokis, was always around at the main restaurant and made conversation and made a really great impression. Very nice pool, large and with a little pool for children on the side. Very nice to have the pool bar nearby, we went there to buy drinks to bring back to the sunbeds. The hotel is in a quiet area around 10 minutes drive from the centre. There is a bus right outside the hotel every 20 minutes that will take you to the centre of Corfu Town.

Our stay was fine and the pool was excellent... The staff was nice but there ends the positives as the location is rather difficult to town. You can spend 20 euro round trip on a taxi or take the bus into town, which both get the job done but highly inconvenient if all you want to do is be in town. The hotel itself is serviceable and nothing spectacular except the pool which is great for families. We did not mind the airplanes as we understood the proximity before booking. If fact it was quite fun watching the comings and goings off the balcony. Overall, have mid expectations and enjoy the staff and pool.

Overall, the hotel was nice (a little dated looking). The air conditioner in our room wasn't working well. We reported it and they offered to move our room, but we didn't want to repack and move. They didn't come to check on the unit, which we would have preferred. The location was in a less desirable area, so we took cabs to the Old Town area. The pool looked very nice, although we didn't use it. The breakfast was ok.
