Bad TV even worse Internet
Checked in for 6 days, woman at desk was kind of rude, but I wasn't going to let it ruin my stay. Went onto internet and both my wife and I noticed it would go off about every few minutes and you'd have to start all over. Called the front desk and another woman told me "mine is working fine", meaning her internet. I noticed when I would change the channels on the TV to lower numbers the picture got worse and worse as I went lower. Could not watch channel 2 and above. Called the office and was told that is the way it is in Mendocino and could do nothing about it. I have never experience the TV thing in Mendocino or the terrible internet service. At least she could have said I will look into it. I found the help to be very rude each time I had to interact with them. I had booked this Hill House Inn for the first time in Feb 2019 during the flooding and the horrible storms in Northern Ca. Had booked three mos. earlier and decide to go up anyway. One of the routes to Mendocino 128 was closed due to flooding, so I went the other way Hwy20. Risked life and limb to get there only to be told they were closed due to no water There was no notification of this ahead of time just a rude woman at the desk saying they were closed, no water, you have a room at the Mendocino Hotel, which is where we usually stay. Good TV and internet. I would have gladly postponed my trip since the weather was so bad but decided to give them another chance, silly me. BTW, no restaurant, or bar.

Very Good 8.0
Lovely property -- needs update.
This is a very attractive property and we had a mostly comfortable stay. We enjoyed the fireplace in our room very much. The front garden is pretty. Parking is good. Our room was a good size. Staff was nice. The décor needs improvement -- there were 2 cushioned chairs in our room that were so uncomfortable that they were useless -- I'm only 5'1" and the chair sat so low I was uncomfortable -- let alone someone of average height or above (we were in rm 206 - some other rooms had what looked like more comfortable chairs). I think they should scale down the Victorian look -- don't think many people are interested in that anymore. Classic is good and the property calls for it, but not such a stuck in the past look as they have now. Also, they need to have someone at the desk after 6 pm. There is a very slight ocean view -- not worth paying extra for. Didn't like that they hid the alarm clock in a drawer -- we didn't find it till our second day. The office is in a separate building which is very Victorian and that's fine, but I think it would be nice if they update the rooms.

Pricey and yet not worth it.
Hill House...needs basic improvement!! I thought that since it was a more private type hotel, it would be extra nice, but not the case here. The staff was nice and friendly but the room lacked the luster that was stated on the website. Pros: The room did have a nice view of the ocean and the garden areas were very nice. Cons: NO SCREEN'S on either of the two windows, I could have easily fallen out of either window as they were located very low on the floor, making for a nice yet dangerous view. NO working air conditioner either so there was no circulation at night, even if we wanted it. So imagine, this nice hotel with gorgeous views and yet with no screens to enjoy the beautiful ocean breeze, what a disappointment!! Boo for you, Hill House!! I was highly disappointed as our room felt more like the 'spare attic' room at the end of the hall complete with a slanted ceiling and a front door that pulled out instead of being pushed-in, it was a complete disappointment. We had more creature comforts at Motel 6 in downtown Fort Bragg, what with their huge step-in 5-foot wide showers and an air-conditioner that worked to circulate the air at night. (And for less than I spent here!) Sorry Hill House, we won't be back until you get screens for your windows.

Honeymoon “Almost” ruined!!!!
We booked our Honeymoon King bed with Ocean View room a month in advance. When we checked in, they told us our room was not available 😠😢 They gave us a room with 2queen beds and said it was ocean view.. It was a ground floor room, needless to say, the “Ocean View” was minimal 😒👎 I was so upset I went up to the front desk, when they asked what they could do to make it better? I said, make it free! My honeymoon was ruined and I want to go home! Crying my eyes out, I went back to the room to take a shower and get myself together. At 11:30pm the front office called and said the room above us “just” opened up and asked if we wanted to move! REALLY?? 11:30 PM !?!? We couldn't leave fast enough

Hotel misrepresented online in poor condition
The ad on Expedia stated there was a restaurant and a bar which did not exist. The room and furnishings and bedding were old and out of date making them feel & appear soiled . There was no glass Cover on the gas fireplacemaking it unusable & the window screens had holes in them with with bugs coming in, forcing us to close the window and have no fresh ocean air or ocean sound. Multiple cigarette burns on hallways outside. Office personnel were not always available. Left at 5 o'clock and doors to lobby locked & would not reopen until morning with a message stating if we needed something we were to contact a different hotel in the area which was very inconvenient. When staff was available they were very nice and personable We feel like we were overcharged for amenities we did not receive and believe some refund is in order. please contact us regarding this complaint
