4/10 Fair

I was hoping for a restored, high end hotel. I got a tired and worn room (draperies coming apart, thermostat off when I arrived.

Antique stay!
The room was cute with antiques! It was slightly furnished and could have used a couch for comfort! Balcony had plywood floors which could use an upgrade. The wood floor in the room was warped and coming up. The idea of this hotel was nice but not 4 stars unless it is better maintained with the antiques!

Hotel is as expected needs a little update but it’s an important hotel for SA and is still lovely. Your staff is more professional than my last visit to the Menger so well done there.

The old hotel concept is nice but, the conditions are simply not acceptable, especially bathrooms and beds. This beautiful hotel urgently needs remodeling!

2/10 Poor

Old Dirty Hotel with a Cool Rooftop Bar
Got there on an 80 degree day and the heater was tyrbed on in the room. Hotel was so old that the dial thermostat couldn't change it to AC and had to get service to get it turned onto cooling. Even when it got turned to cooling it was still too warm with very little airflow. I get the charm of an old antique hotel but the floor was concaved in the room, the floors were dirty, AC vents were rusted and there was trash on the ground underneath fixtures. Rooftop bar was cool amd the oysters were excellent. Would go for the bar again but would definitely recommend staying elsewhere in the area.

Not your usual big box hotel
This is a hard one. the hotel is a great old building and in a great location right next to La Villeta shops and then the River Walk. Some of the features of the building are also great - they look original. the rooftop bar is also great - except you cant use it until 4pm. There is a big But coming here. Some of the building is close to disrepair and some fittings in the room were just plain old rather than quaint. There are also little or no public spaces - I dont think you could buy breakfast (not 100% sure about this)) and there is nowhere comfortable to sit outside until bar opens at 4pm - and even then you need a reservation. none iPf this should put you off staying if you want a change from a corporate hotel but this lovely old building deserves better
