The Fairmount Hotel, San Antonio

1980 called and wants its mattress back. The middle of the bed was a hole and my husband and I rolled into it. Replace that mattress in room 334. VERY uncomfortable.

This is an old quaint hotel(built in 1906) with all the modern comforts one would expect from a fine hotel. The hotel room was tastefully decorated with antique furniture, lots of beautiful lamps and old wood floors. There are two high end restaurants on the hotel premises. We went to the Italian restaurant, where the service and food was excellent. The location is close to the river walk and the convention center. Lots of great restaurants in the area.

Electricity went out in my room; had to request to be moved, because I was working on my laptop and could not get anything done. Also, no refrigerator, microwave in the room; I was disappointed because most places I visit have this feature. Not even ice machines to get ice. The price per day too high for not having those basic items and electricity issues.

It was wonderful stay. Being a guest of this Grand Lady gives you a sense of class & elegance. It feels as, if in another time, one may have expected to see Sinatra sitting at the bar while passing through the lobby.

We were first on the third floor and that was nice - but one of the drapes was missing so they moved us to the 2nd floor which was like a different hotel - dark old with monkey decorations on the curtains and bed. The beds were ok. If they update the look to be like the third floor and get full sets of curtains it would be good. No restaurant or even sundries shop we had to walk down the block to another hotel. Parking was 39.00 a night valet and non-valet was not available other than "you can try to park on the street or go ask the Marriott down the block - not sure what they charge" frustrating for a hotel we paid a lot for. About 15 minutes from the AlMo dome about 5 from the river walk.
