Good Location with A Few Quirks
This hotel has a fantastic location, but that’s about the only fantastic thing about it. Otherwise this is a thoroughly unimpressive and aging property. The room was clean but dated, and the shower was super tiny, I’m not a large man, but I had trouble turning around without basically rubbing the walls. Additionally the hotel played VERY loud pop music from what I guess is the bar area - we were on the 11th floor and it sounded like a concert was going on outside the door (it’s an open atrium hotel). The music stopped at 10PM but we had a very early flight and were trying to get to sleep early. Also note that if you’re coming from the mall side (it’s attached to a mall) there’s no elevator to reception, only a long set of stairs. Another weird thing was that when my wife and I first got to reception, I said I was ‘checking in’ and expected the woman to ask my last name or perhaps if I had a reservation. Instead she looked at my wife and then me, and I guess because we are an interracial couple (?) she asked if I wanted separate rooms. I said 1 and that I just wanted what I reserved online and she said ok. It was just odd.

Very Good 8.0
5 day stay , 1 wacky / 4 great
Update : I booked for 5 nights , the last 4 were great but the 1st was wacky . Altho I had mentioned to the check-in clerk that this was my 1st time in Singapore , they did Not give me any instruction that the room key needs to go into a module inside the room . After entering the light switches worked but timed out after 10 minutes . I reviewed the in room hotel book but it had no instructions . As it was Lunar New Years Eve & I had just traveled for 36 hours , I wanted to avoid bothering staff who were very busy & I just needed rest . After getting a hot shower & shampoo , I then discovered the hair dryer didn't work ( later learned it was due to card key not being inserted ) and the air conditioner was stuck on extreme chilling ( due again to card key issue ) . After spending a night trying to sleep with wet hair & AC on max and lights constantly going off . . I approached the concierge to call maintenance . They explained about putting the key in the module & after that everything worked . The view of the Lunar New Years fireworks was fabulous , the pool is great & there is even a 4th floor staircase leading to the Marina Mall and SMRT . One can check in & go great distances all in cool comfort . Maintenance , concierge and housekeeping staff were all super nice & helpful . The hotel is good but 1st timers should note it is Not like the west , the key is used to control the room power .

Very Good 8.0
This is a stunning hotel visually but lacks some of the amenities I usually look for at this level. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed with pleasant decor which is currently being upgraded. Loads of power outlets means none of the usual problems of charging phones away from side tables overnight. The swimming pool is lovely but there is no attached spa or hot tub/jacuzzi. Neither are there any changing facilities poolside. The hotel sits atop the Marina Square Shopping Mall so is very handy for food outlets and other shopping requirements. We found it very difficult to work out how best to get to the Esplanade from the hotel without a huge trek through the mall or around the block. We finally found a lift from the Mall roof garden to street level a little too late on our trip. The breakfast buffet looks impressive but has very few options for western tastes as it is Halal so no bacon etc. Ingredients seemed a little on the cheap side for S$40 (S$30 pre-booked) with no fish options we might have hoped for either. Location is right where you would want to be to see the Marina and all the tourist sights.

Good 6.0
We were looking forward to staying here as they have been rated a 5 star hotel, yet they fell short of expectations. We have stayed at a vast range of hotels, so we’re compelled to give a fair review of the marina mandarin. The hotel is clean and has tons of amenities, including multiple restaurants, a spa, pool, and fitness center. Where it fell short was the staffs helpfulness both before our stay and during. We think of the concierge as our go to person to help us navigate the city and provide insights and recommendations we wouldn’t be able to find on our own. Since it is the holiday season, we emailed the concierge asking for restaurant recommendations and the response was barely helpful as it was all things we could have googled ourselves. When we we were actually there, we asked the front desk for restaurant recommendations for dinner and her response was to just walk on a certain street and look at all the menus and pick one. The second time we asked for a breakfast place, we were stuck standing by the desk while the gentleman googled things for us. This wasn’t a bad hotel overall, but they really fell short of expectations in service for being a top tier hotel in the marina district. Service is the discerning difference between an okay hotel and an exceptional hotel. This was a great place to stay, if you’re looking for a clean and comfortable room. We think the property hasn’t potential to meet the standards of a true luxury hotel, but they are not there yet

Exceptional 10.0
The staff were the most amazing! From the moment we stepped into the hotel to the minute we left, almost every staff was pleasing and warm to us. Celina was exceptionally nice at check in! I enquired about availability of rooms for upgrade and she very patiently searched the system and explained the different available rooms + price to us. In the end we opted for the club room and it was AAAAAMAZING. Room is renovated (not sure about normal rooms) and on the TOP floor of the hotel. Club lounge is small compared to others we've been to but it's cosy and comfortable. It was supposed to be a simple staycation so we could attend to some stuff around the area but we ended up enjoying it! Thanks Celina for yr recommendation and to all the staff at Marina Mandarin! It's really the staff that makes the hotel! :)
