Much Better Service Needed
We booked the penthouse suite and it had a wonderful balcony with a great view. The room itself was nice, although not particularly functional - outlets weren't where they needed to be for charging devices (or using a hair dryer!). The wifi is also terrible - useless most of the time. But my biggest complaint is about the service. My understanding is that the management is relatively new, so prior reviews may no longer be applicable. With the exception of one person who checked us in, the others we encountered seemed to be bothered by any request. Its like being the unwelcome guest in someone's house and you can tell they want you to leave. An example - they are very strict about their complementary continental breakfast. You must specify a particular 15 minute window when you will consume your coffee, juice and roll. A couple we were traveling with woke up early and decided to go out for breakfast instead of waiting for their chosen time so they cancelled their order. They were lectured about the need to plan better. We asked if we could just order when we woke up and were told it was not possible. There were other examples which I did share in an email to the hotel but there has been no response. Also, their website is not accurate. They promise things like free champagne and fresh baked goods in the room with turn down service. The champagne is Dom on the website and cheap prosecco in actuality and there is no turn down service at all.

Better Service Desparately Needed
My understanding is that this hotel is under new management. The amenities shown on their website are not accurate. (You will not get a free glass of champagne - it is cheap prosecco and the turndown service with fresh baked goods does not exist.). The room itself was lovely. We booked the penthouse suite and it had a lovely view from the balcony and lots of space. There is free wifi but is was basically non-functional - download speed of 2.0 Mbps and o for upload when I tested it. My biggest problem was with the service. Other than the very nice woman who checked us in, the rest of the staff we encountered could not be bothered to provide any type of service. We seemed to be bothering them. Continental breakfast is complementary but you need to preorder with a specific 15 minute time window. We asked if we could call when we wake up but that was not possible. My brother and his partner were chided when they woke up early and canceled their order saying they were going out for breakfast. They were told they should have planned better. There were other examples that I provided to the management in an email. Hopefully they will take some of the suggestions to heart as it really could be a lovely hotel. With the current staff (with the exception of one person) and management, it was like being the uninvited guest in someone's home - and they can't wait for you to leave.

Nice place to hang your hat while seeing London
We finished our 11 days in England with 4 days in London at the Cranley. It is a charming hotel and the staff is welcoming and helpful. The room was VERY small but clean and adequate for our needs since we were touring all day. The fact that it was near a Tube stop and also had lovely restaurants nearby made it ideal for us. We also liked the classy continental breakfast available to be served in our room or lobby (ordered on door evening before). They made every effort to make our stay pleasant and comfortable.

Historic charmer in South Kensington
Was even more impressed when I arrived than from the photos and description. Was greeted with traditional English tea while my room was made ready (I checked in 2 hours early). The bath had modern touches and the lighting was superb and adjustable - so many are dark. The bay windows looked upon the street in a quiet neighborhood with flower baskets on the outer sill. The 4-poster canopy bed was straight out of a movie with luxurious touches. Made me feel like a princess. Easy walking distance to the V & A and other museums, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, and Harrods.
