The Cranley, London
could do better
dirty duvet cover - stained carpets, paint peeling off the walls. friendly staff, I will give it that. A little too economical on changing out soap and bottles of water when doing room clean. Nothing was stolen even when I left a fist full of change on the desk in error. But really ought not to have stained duvet covers.....

We arrived the first day and told the staff our TV was not working properly. They told us they would come up stairs and they never did. We told them again later at night and no one came up again. We also put a claim that our room was very hot and they said the technician for the AC would come but never came. When the manager arrived 2 days later of our stay he told us we had no AC because it was winter and the AC unit was off (so therefore his staff just lied to us). The first two days we stayed there were horrible. Once the Manager had arrived our stay was much more pleasant. If it were not for him we would´ve been very uncomfortable all 4 days.

Nice location; friendly service
The location is great; the lunch delicious; breakfast ok. The service was good, although there were a few glitches. The towel warmer did not work, even though we were told it would be fixed (it never was, apparently). The foldaway bed collapsed in the middle of the night on my daughter; fortunately it was the end where her feet were, rather than where her head was. The person who set it up did not place the feet properly (they credited the cost for that one night).

The building is beautiful from the outside, but inside it is clearly in need of a bit of an update. The decor is on the shabby end. The room was very quiet for being on the street side. The bathroom could have used better cleaning especially around the toilet and the soap was never replaced throughout our stay.

Much Better Service Needed
We booked the penthouse suite and it had a wonderful balcony with a great view. The room itself was nice, although not particularly functional - outlets weren't where they needed to be for charging devices (or using a hair dryer!). The wifi is also terrible - useless most of the time. But my biggest complaint is about the service. My understanding is that the management is relatively new, so prior reviews may no longer be applicable. With the exception of one person who checked us in, the others we encountered seemed to be bothered by any request. Its like being the unwelcome guest in someone's house and you can tell they want you to leave. An example - they are very strict about their complementary continental breakfast. You must specify a particular 15 minute window when you will consume your coffee, juice and roll. A couple we were traveling with woke up early and decided to go out for breakfast instead of waiting for their chosen time so they cancelled their order. They were lectured about the need to plan better. We asked if we could just order when we woke up and were told it was not possible. There were other examples which I did share in an email to the hotel but there has been no response. Also, their website is not accurate. They promise things like free champagne and fresh baked goods in the room with turn down service. The champagne is Dom on the website and cheap prosecco in actuality and there is no turn down service at all.
