Centrally located but not great
Checked in here for a few nights. Rooms were tiny - hardly any room to move, especially for two people. Bathrooms were clumsy and dangerous (no room to get in and out of bath-shower as it is next to toilet). Breakfast buffet is great but staff rude especially if one is running late. Paid for an upgraded room, got a regular room and explanation was unsatisfactory. There is really no difference in rooms. With only 3 elevators in a multi-floored building, you wait a lot for that. Piped music in hallways was loud and annoying - impossible to rest during the day. This hotel seems best suited for Asian shoppers who only care about closeness to malls, not for visitors seeking a quiet respite from the hectic surroundings.

Great location but suffers on size
I chose the South Pacific Hotel primarily for location as it lies on the eastern side of Wan Chai, but literally only a few blocks from Causeway Bay and the MTR station as well as all the hustle and bustle of that part of town. Positively, it is in a good location and the staff are very helpful (and fluent in multiple languages). The breakfast buffet is well-worth the relatively high cost as it can sustain you most of the day. Negatively, the rooms are tiny bordering on claustrophobic but typical for Hong Kong. The odd shape of the hotel (a perfect oval) creates rooms of a pie-wedge shape, and the bathroom set-up was especially cramped (and dangerous as climbing into and out of the shower was very difficult unless one is thin and nimble). Beds were very comfortable for sleeping, but the climate control in the room only had air-conditioning and we were there at a time when heat was needed. This is a very popular hotel with Japanese and Chinese tourists as it is a 5-minute walk to Times Square, Hysen Place and Sogo (3 meccas for shopping). There are good restaurants nearby, a great market street around the corner to get a whiff (literally)of the flavor of an open market, and it is convenient for taxis to find.
