About Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel, New York

Since 1926, the family-owned Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel has brought a bit of the Irish to Midtown Manhattan. Located on Lexington Avenue between East 56th and 57th streets, the hotel offers easy access to some of the city's most coveted shopping--Bloomingdale's and Madison Avenue are both 2 blocks away, and Fifth Avenue is about a 7-minute walk. Take a break with a stroll in Central Park, an emerald expanse just a half-mile west of the Fitzpatrick Manhattan. Seeing a show? The Theater District is about a 20-minute walk or a short cab ride. Several countries' consulates are within just a few blocks, and the Fitzpatrick is often the Irish prime minister's home away from home.

You'll feel right at home here, too. Waterford crystal chandeliers illuminate the wood-paneled, marble-floored lobby. Relax on a plush red sofa beside the imported Irish marble fireplace. At The Fitz restaurant, you can dig into a full Irish breakfast--generous plates of grilled tomatoes, black-and-white-pudding, and Irish sausage are served all day long, alongside other Irish favorites and American dishes. The room-service menu lets you enjoy some of The Fitz's fare 24 hours a day.

Need to get down to business or update your status? Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel for a surcharge. You can keep up with your fitness routine, too: The Fitzpatrick Manhattan offers complimentary access to the 24-Hour Fitness Ultra Sport Club, an expansive facility with a range of cardio and circuit machines, free weights and exercise classes, only 3 blocks away.

The 91 guestrooms provide a warm welcome after a busy day. Stretch out on the pillowtop mattress and watch premium channels on the flat-screen TV. Dock your iPod on the clock radio, and awaken to your personal playlist. Bathrooms are done up with marble, granite, and dark wood and include bathrobes and glass-enclosed showers. Request turndown service, and you'll wind down the night with complimentary chocolates and Irish bottled water. And rest assured: the hotel is smoke-free.

Our Favorite NYC hotel
We love the Fitzpatrick Hotel. It is small and friendly and always neat and clean. It is totally a perfect European-style experience with Irish style and a great Irish breakfast. This hotel is our home away from home.

Endless New York City Construction
Everything about the hotel was excellent. From the drinks at the bar to the comfort and cleanliness of the room. The suites are well appointed and very comfortable. The only down side was the early morning construction. I realize that 8 am is not really early, but when you are looking to sleeping in, it does not lend itself to restful morning.

Rude and Roach
I wasn't told at booking that there was construction next door. They had me facing the construction but voluntarily told me they were upgrading me to a suite because of the inconvenience. I went up to my room (no one offered to help me with my bag,) and it wasn't a suite - it was the small double room. Construction started at 7:00am the following morning. I then went to take a shower and picked up the bathmat from the floor and a roach fell out of it onto my foot. I tried to call downstairs but couldn't get a dial tone from the phone. When I checked out, I told them about the lack of upgrade and the roach (I have photos and a video.) There was no apology, only a "you mean a water bug?" I said "no, a cockroach" and the lady at the desk insisted it was a "water bug" and that "this is New York, they come out of the drain and there is nothing we can do about it. You should have called us to clean it up." As I mentioned, the phone didn't work. The lady was so rude and never apologized, but as I got up to leave, she offered me a small discount. I appreciated that, but considering the 7am construction wakeup call, the lie about the suite upgrade, the roach, and also the shower which had inconsistent water pressure (went to a trickle twice,) I think they really should have done better than that b/c it was still really expensive. I moved to the Omni, Berkshire Place, the next day which was fabulous and the same price as my original Fitzpatrick quote. I'm very disappointed in my stay.
