Travelodge Red Deer, Red Deer
Poor1.0 / 5
We've stayed at this hotel three years in a row for a convention held each April in Red Deer. This time, we were given a main floor room with outside access. It was small & so run down that it appeared dirty. There were holes in the carpet, and worst of all, no heat! We were traveling with our newborn, and after complaining, the staff moved us to a room on the third floor. We went from the king room that I'd booked down to a queen. The baby had to sleep in his stroller, that I thankfully had along! The room was relatively clean, but just run down. There were upholstery nails dangerously poking out of the chair in the room. The toilet felt like a teeter totter. I was scalded in the shower when the toilet was flushed. The breakfast consisted only of toast, bagels & cereal. Also a few bruised apples and a poor selection of yogurt. On the ramp in the lobby there was some razor sharp corner edging that took a gouge out of my stroller wheel (thankfully not my foot!). Very dangerous! We spoke to the manager who heard our complaint, but offered no apology and only said they were about to start renovations to update the place. It has gotten worse & worse. We won't be going back there next year

Not Bad - Cheap and basic for 1 night
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. I found the hotel very dated and needing a facelift. Old style rear projection tv's, old carpet and counter. I found the room very small. I felt like the matteress was very hard alot like it was just a box spring. The room had no heat, which was okay as it wasn't very cold outside. Not having indoor access to the swimming pool, made us not want to use it as who in their right mind at -5 wants to truck outside in their swim wear.

Molding, Dirty and Disrespectful Hotel
We booked this hotel at last minute, but based on the pictures and some reviews read we were confident it would meet our needs for the one night. However, once we got our room we were extremely disappointed. The carpets were very stained and looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in months, the walls were very dirty and had different color drip stains down some of the walls, the doors were covered in fingerprints and other dirt, the bathroom ceiling tiles were molding and had severe water stains, there was dirt and what looked like mold built up around the bathtub, the blankets smelt like smoke even though it was supposed to be a smoke free room. The issues were so great that we called down about the condition of the room; a severe problem since I am 9weeks pregnant and my 3yr old son has severe asthma. We were brushed off and asked to touch the ceiling tile for them to let them know it was wet, we were told that they would have no idea of the condition of the room as they don't check the rooms very often and I was called a "b%t$h" for being upset about the condition of the room. I was told that I shouldn't expect much for a 76$ room. No matter the price, your hotel should always meet the Alberta Hotel Standards. When asked for compensation on the room or for them to simply make things better for our stay they were less than helpful. We quickly packed up our car and found some place else to stay. They have been reported and have done nothing to try and make things right.

Outdated and in need of a makeover
I stayed for the price and got what I paid for. The hotel is in dire need of an update. The rooms are dark, smelly and in pretty rough shape. It was fairly easy to hear people in the room behind mine through the bathroom ceiling tiles (the main room has a solid ceiling). The bed was comfortable however! TV was a CRT model, so no hi -def. Room decor adds to the dark feel - very old dark paneled furniture and dark wall paint on the feature wall. The housekeeping appeared ok given they have the room age stacked against them, but there were several glue stains on the room table and on the bathroom counter front- don't know if this was from previous travelers or from workers doing maintenance. Regardless, it does not make for a positive experience. And for being a non-smoking room, someone definitely had smoked in it as there were burn marks on the microwave and quite a bit of room freshener smell to overcome the smoke smell. The room fridge was loud also - the older model with refrigerant and a compressor instead of the electronic fridges so that was a trade-off. I.e. a fridge which provides a great cold temp but noise. As for temperature, this was controlled by baseboard heaters but no temperature indicator so it was guess work where to set the thermostat. The free breakfast was very, very basic - packaged mini blueberry muffins, cold cereal, oatmeal from a pouch, cold-hard boiled eggs, toast (white or brown), yogurt, orange juice, tea/coffee, apples
