Home away from home
This is my 6th time there in 3 years Always a good experience. Only thing missing was Nick’s friendly smile. He was a bellhop who had been there forever who has now retired.

Great place if you need anything.
We stayed here before and love the location. Impossible to find a trash can on the property, especially at the main entrance. This was frustrating. Good value for the money. In need of some TLC as molding inside the shower needs repair. Carpet in the hallway smells musty and towels are getting miles on them (lost their fluff). Staff is friendly enough and try hard to please. Fast room service and always a smile at the front desk. Gym is a bit dated but good. Didn't experience spa or pool. Room is big enough, comfortable and always cleaned and well stocked. Much better than other 5 Star properties in the area.

This is a luxurious hotel. Can't say much more than that. The staff is especially helpful. They position an employee near the elevator to give you any assistance you need. This would be the person to ask for help rather than the concierge. I found that the latter wasn't very helpful and her English was much weaker. Couple of very minor downsides. A hotel that large hotel like this should have multiple eating venues, and this one doesn't. Watch out for the breakfast buffet. It's very good but costs about $44 USD per person.

One night in Puxi
Spent one night with family at Shanghai Center between Hangzhou and returning to PVG airport for a long trip home. The Ritz Portman was a great value for the short time in the city. We just needed a 1-day rest between a lomg weekend in Hangzhou and a long flight from Shanghai to Brazil. The Portman is located on Nanjing road which is lined with luxury retail malls and nice restaurants. If you are traveling with international credit cards, you may find them accepted in limited venues in China. However, many places in this district end up accepting visa. Check in was very quick - the reception also gave a little sticker game to our kid. This game was later redeemed for a free ice cream in the lobby - nice touch. The room was nicely appointed with expected amenities. We were on the 21st floor and had a decent skyline view (made possible by clear skies). Room was clean and comfy - only incident we had was that my 3 yr old stubbed his toe under the closet door. Also, the sliding bathroom doorwas a little quirky - tricky to lock/unlock with wet fingers. Since the hotel is close to lots of food options, we had xiaolongbao at Din Tai Fung and a fantastic dinner a Dadong which is a michelin starred chinese restaurant in one of the shopping complexes a 5 minute stroll down Nanjing road. Overall- a brief but pleasant stay. The concierge/lobby staff always very cordial and helpful when accessed.
