Older building with SO much character. Modern bathroom Reno’s. Loved it.

A nice basic place to stay in downtown Toronto. The king suite is huge, plenty of room for a family.

Disappointing to say the least
There were some minor inconveniences upon arrival - one of the mattresses was completely shot, but they gladly switched us to another room (those mattresses were fine). You have to go to the basement level to get to the soda machine and the ice machine. The parking at the hotel is outrageous - $40 per night! We ended up using a public lot a couple of blocks away for around $12 per day (saving us over $100), and it was guarded 24/7. The restaurant is only open until 11 am every day, with prices comparable to regular restaurants. The one VERY CONCERNING incident happened at 5:30 am early on Saturday morning when the fire alarms started going off, and continued ringing for at least 20 minutes. We made our way down 6 flights of stairs to street level, then waited in the 25 degree cold and wind. At NO POINT did anyone from the hotel offer any explanation, instruction or information - i never once saw anyone from the staff. The only way we knew it was OK to go back up to our room was seeing the fire trucks leave the scene. Are the staff trained on what to do in an emergency? On basic customer service? I'll guess not. At checkout, there was absolutely NO apology or offer of compensation for the inconvenience... the clerk just said he didn't work Saturday so he didn't know anything about it. The bill ended up being higher than our negotiated price, with no explanation why. The room was a decent size and fairly well-maintained, but the staff's reaction in an emergency was inexcusable.

Always a solid choice when the price is right...

Really friendly hotel, and easy walk to centre and downtown. Great breakfasts with really friendly waiter. An excellent place to stay without the noise of the busy city. Lovely botanical gardens just over the road, and the Keg Maison restaurant just up Jarvis St. is really excellent.

Caribana week
The front desk staff and managers were completely helpful and amazing. The location is a lil sketchy near an abandoned building where people that are homeless run around. But close to eatery's, supermarkets, liquor store, malls and other shopping areas. Rooms are super clean and staff are nice.

staff were excellent when room was not acceptable. Actually changed our room twice giving us a great upgrade to a two bedroom suite. Unfortunately the beds and pillows not comfortable. Mattress on pullout terrible. Slept on sofa itself rather than the sofa bed mattress. Room not very clean , dirt everywhere on rugs. This hotel really needs an upgrade. Would not stay again.

Great place to stay
Great location. Friendly staff. Great rooms.

Poor 2.0
Overpriced Parking
The room was fine, but a bit outdated. The entire building is very old. The location is horrible- full of homeless people and panhandlers. The pool was so full of chlorine that they have a warning sign posted. What is worse, however, is the ridiculously overpriced parking garage. The 'bar' they have is only open for breakfast, which was not included in the price. When asked what was going on that weekend in the area, the staff encouraged us to come next week. No friendly recommendations at all.
