Great Location, Great Price!
Great location for a great price. My first trip to Manhattan and definitely will come back to this hotel next time. Parking garage directly across street. Tel them you're staying at the Americana for a discounted rate.

Wouldn't stay here agin if THEY paid me to stay!
Wouldn't recommend staying here. Way too expensive for what it was. Bathrooms not in room, but nearby. The mattress seemed... "moist" for lack of a better word. Felt damp, and don't want to imagine what we were laying on. The windows are made of Saran Wrap! I understand it's NYC, I live nearby and have stayed in the city too many times to count. I know it's the city that doesn't sleep. I normally sleep with the TV on loud and sometimes with the lights on. But the noise that came through the CLOSED windows was unreal! I literally got up to check to make sure they were in fact closed and not WIIIIIDE open- they were closed but must just be incredibly thin!

Flaw on the hotels.com site.
The location was fine. The hotel was fine. We didn't see on the hotels.com site that it was "shared bathrooms". Out of the question for us and they wouldn't refund our money. We were told to take it up with you. Not using hotels.com again and actually believe that not disclosing the "shared bathrooms" could be a legal violation.

The adage "you get what you pay for" applies here. For $100, in midtown Manhattan, this was a pretty good deal. The room was barely bigger than the bed, and each room had a curious array of fixtures - a bed, a small wooden chair, a sink, a twelve-inch-diagonal flat-screen TV, and a mirror - and that was all. The room was relatively clean, and surprisingly well maintained, given how old the building is, but there were some problems. The bed was a cheap, flimsy metal one that you might find in a summer camp or motel. You have to walk down the hall to use a bathroom/shower that you share with several other guests. Each shower has a shampoo dispenser, but the one I tried to use was empty. The clerk has to buzz you in through the front door, and you have to climb to the second floor to check in. The TV didn't work. But by far the biggest problem was the noise. There is a one-inch crack below each room door that allows sounds to carry in from the outside. I heard the crying baby in the room next door. I heard the couple having a spirited debate across the hall, and worst of all, the air conditioner kicked with the roar of a jackhammer every five minutes. I used earplugs and slept with a pillow pressed over my head, and still it took me four hours to get to sleep. I'd recommend this hotel only to students and other travelers on a shoestring budget. For everyone else I'd strongly urge you to spend a little more and stay in one of the name-brand hotels.
