Great hotel. Very cool, clean, and comfortable. The hotel is safe and secure, but be aware - the surrounding area is a bit sketchy.

Loved The Phoenix!
This hotel was the bomb. Clean, and decor was so much fun. Pool was WARM and clean. Breakfast in the courtyard was lovely. The area is a little questionable. Do not eat at the KFC/Taco Bell a block away. But proximity to the city is fabulous. We enjoyed our 2 mile walk down to Fisherman's Wharf and enjoyed the views from the top of Nob Hill. Great way to see the city. Would stay here again in a heartbeat - FREE parking!!!!

Nice hotel but loud restaurant
Overall, the hotel is very trendy and has been nicely refurbished. The downer is the restaurant connected to the hotel - they are separate entities. I didn't know when I booked the hotel that the restaurant plays loud music until 10 or 11 every night. Every room overlooks the hotel, which opens into the hotel courtyard with the pool. The restaurant was closed to the public on Sunday morning for a private party that blasted rap music from 11 am until 5 pm. It was a less than pleasant stay due to that as the restaurant guests surrounded the pool making it unusable to hotel guests. If I stayed again, I would definitely call to see if parties were booked at the restaurant. The area isn't the nicest with a lot of homeless around but I never once felt unsafe. Front desk staff was incredibly friendly and super helpful!

Perfectly fine hotel surrounded by drug use
The Phoenix is a perfectly serviceable hotel. The staff was friendly, the parking is free, and the rooms are in fairly good condition. They could put a little more attention to what guests need -- comfort, more outlets, less red tape, storage space and hooks in the bathroom, etc -- but overall, it's fine. The surrounding area, though, is not a joy to be around. That's not the hotels fault and they have some security so if you have a car and keep your wits about you, it shouldn't detract very much from your trip but the overwhelming presence of drug users and people who emanate instability was unsettling.
