Exceptional 10.0
The location of this hotel is fantastic- on one hand it is off a quiet street, but on the other - just steps away from Place L’Horloge. Staff was very friendly and helpful. My only slight disappointment was that the air conditioner was not working on my room, and I kept forgetting to tell the front desk, so I had to get by with open door to the terrace and some ear plugs, as the square down below gets quite noisy. The room was fabulous, as far as amenities. It was on the fifth floor and had a terrace. Having the outside space was very nice for evenings and mornings. The room was equipped with all necessities, from nice toiletries, robe and slippers to minibar. I highly recommend this place.

3 nights at Hotel de L'Horloge
I stayed 3 nights at L'Horloge. It's advertised as 4* hotel. I'd give it 2* at the most. First the good: you can't beat the location. It's 1 min away from the Palais des Papes. Close to the shopping and numerous restaurants. The front desk people are friendly, speak English well and ready to help if they can. The less good: Hotel is very old and not updated in years. It's a combination of 2 buildings so expect multiple stairs to walk up and down to get to your room even after exiting the elevator. WiFi was practically non-existent. AC only works during summer months, but no one told that to Mother Nature. It was hot and humid in May. If you open window the noise from the street is deafening: Church bells, motorcycles (sounding like lawnmowers), people all night. The bathroom is very small. No shower, just a tub that you have to climb over the toilet - try not to slip while getting in or out. No shower curtain, so you have water all over the bathroom after shower. Pedestal sink is tiny so can't put anything on it. The bed and pillows are ok. Carpet is faded purple and didn't look very clean, but at least hotel provided slippers so didn't have to walk on the floor barefooted. Breakfast buffet was just ok. I was in a superior room, I shudder to think what non-superior room looks like. Better to pay a little more and stay somewhere else.

Fantastic location with only minor issues
The location of this hotel couldn't be better. Everything within the city walls of Avignon is walk able from this hotel. Some nights it got a bit noisy but we just closed the window and it was fine. The staff is also great, they were always attentive and ready to help. The only complaints I have were with the bathroom and wifi. The bathroom was a bit run down and twice during the mid-morning, it would smell like sulfur but, I think that was an isolated incident. The WiFi was pretty much unusable. Improving the WiFi would make a major difference.

Gorgeous Terrace Views, But Not the Most Quiet
I stayed in one of the terrace rooms on the 5th floor, which was well worth the extra money spent for it. The view was beautiful and the atmosphere was relaxing; it was my favorite part of my stay here. The location of the hotel is fantastic--right in the heart of the town square, and close to many restaurants and shopping areas. I could walk around the town and still find my way back to the hotel without any problems. There's also a grocery store nearby if you don't want to eat out. The only reason I gave this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 is because the rooms are very close to each other and the walls are incredibly thin; you can hear the conversations your neighbors are having, and when their doors open and close, it's quite startling and you probably won't get a good night's rest. However, I would still recommend staying here, especially for the terrace views.

Comfortable and perfectly placed
Right on the buzzing Place de l'Horloge, a minute from Palais des Papes (and the expensive underground car park there: €13.60 a day even with the 20% hotel discount – give them your ticket for that) it couldn’t be better placed. Lots of good restaurants around (L'Epicérie arguably the best), and if you don’t want the hotel breakfast you can get a coffee & croissant at a cafe 20m away. You can park outside for 5 mins to unload. Once you’re past the glass porch, which puts a midtown 2-star dorm in mind, the hotel has some character and is tastefully decorated. Our room was a decent size and comfortable – lovely pillows! Usual minibar, coffee/tea making (not always fully replenished), iPad-size safe, good big TV, functional shower/bath. Nice sitting- and breakfast rooms, helpful staff.
