Very fun and relaxing family trip
This is a family trip with 3 adults and 2 elementary school-aged kids. We stayed for 5 days and 4 nights at the Phoenix Inn. Location is really convenient gas station, grocery stores and a varieties of foods, 10 minutes drive to downtown Salem, 10 minutes drive to Enchanted Forest (a small but really fun theme park for the kids). 1 hour drive to Portland. The guests in the hotel during our stay were mostly retired elder couples. The hotel itself is really clean, very friendly staffs, and we basically had the pool to ourselves during our entire stay. Free breakfast with cereal, coffee, waffle maker, sausages, eggs, fruits...they also gave us free bottles of waters due to water advisory in Salem. The wifi in our room worked for our phones and tablets, but didn't work on my laptop somehow.( I couldn't figure it out and didn't bother to ask). Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. Would definitely come back again.

Very nice
Everything was great. Only negative, but not really a negative, was that the pillows were too hard. We generally use our own pillows. We thought these would be fine so we left ours in the car. It was too late to retrieve them. But we will definitely choose this facility the next we are in town.

Not staying here again
I was given two keys that didn’t work, and had to walk back to the desk only to be told, “let’s try this again, if these don’t work let me know.” I get all the way back to the room and find that the room they gave me keys to was occupied. Another walk back to the desk and another one of the longest 1 floor elevator rides I’ve ever been on. They get me a new room and new keys and the nice girl behind the counter (who I’m assuming was the night manager) takes me down to the room... Another long elevator ride. There’s no sign of an ice machine anywhere other than the bucket in my room. I wander the hall finally finding a sign for vending and follow it to a single vending machine with no ice. The halls and rooms are at 80+ degrees and what feels like sauna humidity so simply meandering has left me sweaty and gross feeling. I find the ice machine on the second floor no thanks to any signs, fill my bucket 3 cubes at time and go back to the room. I’m ready for bed and start to get undressed when I remember the curtains are still open. I go to the window and find that the curtains are only a foot wide and mounted in place so they can’t actually be put in front of the window. To anyone who may have been walking by my ground floor window: I hope you enjoyed the show. The room smelled horribly of stale cigarette smoke and faintly of urine. The AC had one setting - arctic which was a nice reprieve from the hallway, but I did have to get up in the middle of the night to shut it off...
