The Kirketon Hotel, Darlinghurst
Great place, great location.
I was very pleased with the Kirketon Hotel. It was very convenient to walk to the Kings Cross Train and you can just about anywhere on the train with an Opal card. My first day, I easily walked to & from the Harbour (Opera House, etc.) The ONLY issue you may have - and they WILL assist you, if needed - is there is no elevator. There are only two floors, maximum, up which you might have to walk up carrying your luggage. But, again, they will assist you. I will also recommend, highly, breakfast one street over at Tigerbakers (292 Victoria) and dinner up the street at The Almond Bar (379 Liverpool St - adjacent to 302 Darlinghurst).

Receptionists were friendly. Our room had a view of a brick wall and lots of pigeons' droppings, which was rather depressing.

Stupidest hotel on earth (possibly)
Who designs or runs a hotel where the rooms have NO DRAWERS? Where are you supposed to unpack your stuff? If there was a place to put three suitcases, we could have worked from that, but there's no room for any. You have to open and close your suitcases constantly to even dress. This hotel is all about style with no substance. The floor in our bathroom had spots - poor cleanliness. The towel rod was so low that the towels touched the floor. The toilet paper dispenser was behind the toilet, at urine splash level, with spots to show for it. Just a nearly non-functional hotel room. And the bed was saggy, too. I will not recommend this hotel, except to people I despise.

Good for the price.
That hotel is pretty straightforward, no-frills, but gets the job done well. The bedrooms are very small, but again for the price they are comfortable and it was quiet and clean. Very easy access to a wide variety of restaurants.
