Profile: Puerta de Tierra

Profile: Puerta de Tierra

Puerta de Tierra is a narrow strip of land connecting Old San Juan with the new, putting you in prime position for exploring forts and cathedrals in the morning, and heading to the shopping malls and casinos after lunch.

But there’s one very good reason to linger in this small district too – Balneario Escambron. With soft, golden sand, swaying palm trees, and crashing surf, this paradisiacal beach is often overlooked in favor of the resort areas, meaning that serious surfers and those in-the-know have it to themselves. Yet it still has snack bars and grills to enjoy.

    The Arnau’s honey moon.

Our stay was amazing. We had a great view. It was for our honeymoon. We had a little spa jacuzzi tub. We were originally out on the 4th floor and we wanted a higher view of the views and they bumped us up to the 8th floor. They made sure we had extra towels and bedding. Super sweet!

Beautiful property & very friendly staff!

Absolutely beautiful! Literally MILLION DOLLAR views! From the security and check in process to the rooms, balconies and the VIEW! Absolutely amazing. Everything was clean, every single person I encountered was polite and knowledgeable. Very very helpful staff. Surrounded by hotels that are more than double the price, this place is a steal. Already booking our next trip and staying here again.

    Quick one night stay

We stayed here for one night, simply for proximity to old town and the airport. We had to leave early the next morning. If you just need a place to sleep, this is fine for the price. If you want to enjoy hotels amenities if any kind… this is not a good fit. No parking. No food. No pool. Not hot tub. Just a room. So … for the right reasons… it may work. Hotel room smelled like lemon cleaner and there were hand prints all over the glass screen door when we arrived. Being that we are in a pandemic, I second guessed the actual cleanliness but… we took our chances because we didn’t have a choice. Haha Staff was very friendly and informative.

    Surprise fees- beware

The hotel room stank of mold. They only provided a wash cloth on the first day. Knowing I booked a room for 2. Was never regimen a wash cloth. Parking is $35 a day or 2 blocks up you can park for $10. I checked out late by mistake. I tried to explain that I was stranded in Ayorro and the hotel charged an additional $35hr

    HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE!!!

Where do I start to explain my horrible experience here. When I arrived I was given my key and went up to my room. I opened the door and the bathroom door slammed shut so i thought it was the wind, when i opened it, it slammed shut again, when i re-opened it, i saw a lady naked in the bathroom, so i screamed do you work here and she said no and her husband jumped out of the bed and we started arguing. I was happy he didn't have a gun with him. I go downstairs to the reception area and explained to them what happend, they said they forgot to register that person to that room. They gave me another room. I get to my new room and there is no hot water, i had to wait 1 hour for the plumber, then when the plumber left i showered and changed clothes to go get dinner and when we leave, we get stuck in the elevator. I called 911 because none of the buttons worked. Then we called the hotel and when reception picked up the girl says that the buttons on the left side of the elevator that I'm in doesn't work i should be using the buttons on the right side, i said why don't they put a sign, she didn't know what to say. After many emails and calls to the General Manager he said we could leave the hotel and would refund us the money. by this time it's 9:00pm. I packed up and ran out of that hotel and started looking for another place. This place is not a good place to stay. Bad service they provide and horrible manners they have.

I would do it again :)

Overall it was really good. I did report that the toilet did not have enough "pressure" and had to flush several times and the bathtub draining was very-very slow. The towels were a little hard and did not have wash clothes (weird). I am very-very peaky and just got back from a trip from Rochester NY and stayed at a Marriott and it was terrible. Comparing both experience I will always pick Costa Bahia over that specific Marriott: Employees were very nice, there were always someone cleaning all areas and elevators, they were their mask properly, they asked politely for my COVID-19 shot evidence, check-in and out. The small fridge was an awesome surprise. I went for the $19 parking and it worked perfect! I felt safe and secure at all times. Some friends came over for a couple of hours and they ALL loved it and are actually planning to stay there soon. Thanks
