Nice but expensive restaurants
This place is beautiful! It is so close to the Yosemite south entrance. We arrived late afternoon and left in the morning, so I know we didn’t see a lot of the property but what we saw was wonderful. We stayed in the Birch cottage. The beds were comfortable and the staff was helpful, the only reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars was due to the expensive restaurants.

Not the Yosemite Resort you are looking for
One of my pet peeves is the “Resort Fee” that some hotels add on the the price of the room. These are not imposed by any outside agency, they are a bump the hotel charges for things like: WiFi, drinking water, and access to pools, spa, and parking. You would expect these to be included in the hotel charge and I find these “Resort Fees” a way to boost the price of the room without raising the booking price. Hotels.com was upfront about the $30 Resort Fee. On checkout there were more undisclosed fees. Granted these are trivial amounts but they feel like just a couple of more pokes at my wallet. I would have been much happier that they include the $30 ‘resort’ fee and other charges in the price of the room and be done with it. It tainted my first impression of the hotel. My wife enjoyed the stay. We had a nice dinner a JackAlopes outside by the fire and we did get exceptional service from our waiter. He was attentive and helpful without rushing us and he made us feel welcome. Unfortunately that was the exception. Be aware that it’s over an hour’s drive from the hotel to the Yosemite Valley floor where most people want to spend the day. Technically a few miles from the park’s southern entrance, it's a long drive into the main sites of the park. Unless you are coming from the Fresno direction I would recommend staying in the park or one of the hotels on the Merced river between Mariposa and El Portal. First impressions are important and the "Resort Fee" was too bad.
