Caneel Bay, St. John
Beautiful property
The property is absolutely beautiful, very expensive and rooms are not very good, but again, an amazing property with great beaches, snorkeling, and views.

Location and Beaches are what you are paying for
This property is amazing. Beach access was amazing. You are really paying for the location and being in the preserve. The people and service are great as well. Rooms are equipped with Wifi but no phones and no TV's. Expect to disconnect. Our room was a long walk to the main building but a shuttle runs often. We walked because it was so beautiful. The staff at the high end Italian restaurant onsite was snotty, that was really the only bad experience. I would not pay the rate we aid again, just not posh enough for $1,100 a night. The water had a horrific smell out of the tap, ran across some roaches so could be cleaner but it is an older historic property so you could see why that happens. Again, don't expect that for the price.

The Good and the Not-So-Good
St.John is beautiful - quiet, peaceful, and largely a nature preserve.Liked the donkeys and deer wandering around. Not a lot of nightlife or shopping - if this is what you are seeking consider a different island. But it is part of the charm of St. John. Caneel Bay is an amazing property of nearly 200 acres including multiple beautiful beaches with powder sand and clear turquoise water. There are very good water sports, and the service is excellent and friendly. The food is very good but expensive (expect to spend about $150 per person per day - excluding drinks). However, despite a wonderful property, I was disappointed by the rooms. For the price, I expected better. Our rooms were clearly in need of renovation - paint, repair, nicer furniture. The bathroom was small, no tub, cracked tile, mildew on walls. The air conditioner was noisy. Also lots of mosquitos - dozens of bites despite the provided insect repellent. As for amenities, you should be aware that the pool is quite small, and there is no golf course on the property (good tennis facilities however). Would I return - Yes - for the atmosphere and beauty of the place and that is part of the United States (easy travel - no passport). But I would choose a room carefully and seek those which have been renovated. I would also investigate meal plans.
