Bad experience
The hotel was very much over-priced. The air conditioning did not work well. It took two workers two hours in our room to hook up our phone. Breakfast was good as was the restaurant. The tour company they used had no name, charged different amounts (by 50 dollars per person) at different hotels, and took us to a "pre-paid" lunch place that turned out to be charging our credit card two extra times for about 350 and 250 dollars; our regular charge for beverages was 3.50 dollars. We hope that the hotel personnel were not involved in this scheme.

Decent Hotel
Merlin Copacabana is nice hotel but the rooms are not as good as the rest of the hotel. The rooms are pretty out of date and the bedding and furniture definitely need to be upgraded. The breakfast is very good and the rest of the hotel is nice with a nice rooftop pool with views of Copacabana Beach.

A little bit rundown. The room needed remodeling. Fantastic Roof Top with swimming pool, Fitness room was small, very good breakfast.

Had an absolute wonderful stay. We spoke no Portuguese, but most of the staff at the front desk knew a usable amount of English. Of course in a foreign country there are always language barriers, but the staff worked hard even if they didn't know any English to meet all of our needs. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was great, friendly staff, and only a few minute walk to the beach and a very short taxi ride to sugarloaf mountain (literally just on the other side of the hill the hotel is next to). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
