Disappointed
Overall I was disappointed in my stay. We rented a 2 bedroom oceanview villa. First, we arrived 15 minutes early. Check in 3pm we arrived at 245pm, and heard excuses 10x about us being early. Ive been to hotels way earlier and never heard a complaint (even if room wasn't ready). They kept that same attitude throughout the stay. It was as if we were not welcome. Anytime we needed anything it was a sigh and poor effort to complete the ask. We had a private butler for the villa who was better than any of the other employees. He helped us a good bit. Outside of him the service was 1/10. Food was Very disappointing. It was Average all inclusive food at a fine dining price. They convinced us to go to the big bbq buffet on the beach which was $115 / person for pizza and chicken bones + drinks additional of course. IF food was great then not a problem. Room service was repetitive and below average. We were tired of food and left after 3 days. Beach is beautiful but very rocky. Not what many expect in Caribbean. But still no complaints here. Pool is nice too. Food at beach is ok, but same menu as dinner basically so very repetitive. The room itself was nice, although spent first night in wrong room. We booked 2 bedroom Villa (2 king beds) we arrived to twin beds. Ended up upgrading us for final 2 nights to a very nice 3 bedroom villa. But for price of 2k / night even upgrade was overpriced. Overall would say experience felt like any regular all inclusive in Cancun

10/10 Exceptional

Scuba Diving Resort - Resort's website doesn't make this clear, so I'm emphasizing it here. They have a scuba facility on property with training, diving from the beach or quick 10 minute boat rides. Resort is located next to almost every popular dive in St. Lucia. You can even do a night dive. Elijah is the scuba manager, he is professional and enthusiastic, you are in good hands with him and his team. Most people stay further north on the island which is a mistake, Sugar Beach is located near the island's best activities, not just diving, but also Tet Paul, the Pitons, sulphur mud baths, chocolate making, botanical gardens, Superman waterfall. The resort is breathtaking, the way the Pitons frame the view of the sky and ocean has to be experienced. Our room was spacious and extremely private with an amazing view. The warmth of the staff and the St. Lucian people in general cannot be overstated. The level of service is impeccable. The spa is also a don't miss experience, set in treehouses, like everything about the property it's a magical experience. Food is the only aspect of the property that has room for improvement. Boopa's (named after Bupa the elephant that lived on the property in the 80's) serves up VERY tasty cakes, to-go salads and sandwiches would be nice. The breakfast buffet and menu items are nicely done, do not order room service for breakfast. We had 2 buffets they were very well done. Food is expensive, the quality of preparation and ingredients are lacking.

6/10 Good

Sugar Beach resort is a beautiful place. Stunning scenery and everything that you could ever imagine about being in the Caribbean. Most staff were lovely and our Buttler was amazing. I could not compare the service to Ladera though. On the flip side, I would not stay at Sugar Beach again, despite this being a magical place. The beauty is totally overshadowed by the astronomical pricing for food that is equivalent to 2 star. Other than lunch on the beach, I can’t say that we enjoyed even one meal. We were booked in one evening which unknown to us was a buffet. The charge was &95 per person ….so with a couple of drinks, it cost us $300 for a plate of rice & salad (I don’t eat meat). I don’t mind paying for a good service but the food price is totally above anything reasonable for what it is. It wasn’t nice. We will not be returning again.

10/10 Exceptional

This property is a piece of heaven settled in between two majestic pitons. The butler/customer service was exceptionally helpful and convenient, and the arrival transfer went smoothly. The food was incredible, and the beach and property was very safe and well maintained. We loved that the water was so calm. One thing worth mentioning is that the sand isn't as fine as the northern part of the island, but it makes sense considering the location. Despite that, it didn't make it any less comfortable to walk on. We would definitely come back!
