Live the 49er Life! (not a football reference)
Making some business calls in the Mother Lode area, I happened upon the Sonora Inn. It seemed quaint and mildly historical (which beats a chain motel, every time), but upon check-in I realized I had definitely stepped into the past. This is a historic property, not just one made over to look historic. The lift was out of service, so I schlepped my bag up the wide, creaky staircase to the second level. Upon entering the room, it's size and arrangement (with a diminutive, afterthought bathroom) transported me back to the late 19th century, when this would have been luxurious accommodations indeed for a "49er" who'd hit it rich and came into town to celebrate. I walked around quaint downtown Sonora, bought a great latte from a local store, and even found a small park that included an original Pelton hydro turbine as part of a display on early mining practices. Perfect! (I work in the hydro industry)

Loved this historic hotel, great location to visit downtown Sonora. The lady who checked us in was very nice and helpful. Older hotel with wonderful details, we will be back!

Definitely not what you see in the pictures... the receptionists were always nice... it's an older building so just expect that! Not during, just personally kind of a creepy building
