Unsafe to stay!!
Do not stay here! It is so unsafe, the doors to each wing do not have the swipe card lock system, anyone can walk in to the building and up to your room door. The room has unclean. There were left over items from the people before us, old food left in our fridge. Outside of the building smelled. The breakfast was horrible, stale items. Not enough staff, or staff who cared. There was trash left on our balcony. Very unsafe place to be!! Especially if you have kids!! Don’t stay here!

Won't be my first choice next time
I'm not sure that I would stay at this Shilo Inns The Dalles again. I'm not saying that I absolutely wouldn't either.
The first thing I noticed was the large sign in the lobby stating they were short staffed, which is good for people to know so there is a different expectation going in.
The front desk staff was polite and greeted us right away and let us know said they would be right with us.
Check in was simple and easy.
While checking in I asked if they've ever had issues with the front having no ADA accessibility to the front lobby.
They mentioned the other building is where the accessible rooms are so there's no issues.
There is no wheelchair access to the front lobby for people to check in unless they know to enter through a different building and come all the way down the hall.... ?
Then I ended up with an ADA accessible room.... which I didn't need. I was just curious because rolling luggage up stairs made me think about wheelchairs.
The hall smelled musty or smoky. The room I got wasn't any better. And the condition of the walls in the bathroom were in desperate need of repair.
The beds were decent but not super comfy and they didn't provide any non decaf tea.
There was hot chocolate in the lobby and breakfast wasn't terrible. There were eggs and sausage, pastries, fruit, juices and milk. Unfortunately the eggs came with cheese on them so I asked if they had any without and at the time there weren't any. They did say they try to have them normally.

Front desk needs customer service training
Customer service upon Check-in was terrible. Check-out was much better.
The room was comfortable enough and the pet area was clean and in a good place.
Breakfast was mediocre, but the overall affordability was on point.
They also need to make the pet fee clearer upon booking and check-in.

Nice place, breakfast not so much
This was a lovely room except the smoke detector is covered in plastic, the neighboring plumbing noise was awful and there was a dog whining and barking in a room nearby. Went to the breakfast but didn't stay. The bed was great and so was using large containers of soap, shampoo etc. No plastic wastes. Very clean except for the plastic on the smoke detector.
