The Queen Mary
Excellent4.0 / 5
The ship is an historical marvel, and for that reason, alone, it's worth the trip. But vessel maintenance is egregious! The paint, especially the upper white band, is failing off in great chunks, and, generally, it looks as if the ship is only a short time from the breakers. I hope the current management outfit and the city of Long Beach can find a way to restore the Queen Mary to something resembling her former elegance.

Queen Mary full size bed hotel room, B317
Room was clean and very nice for the age and the period décor. Room was clean. Only thing I didn't like was the thin walls where I could hear everything the next room was saying (they weren't shouting or yelling). But there was a disclaimer and warning saying why it was happening. This did still cause me to wake up early when the next room woke up and they started talking at 6:30am (I didn't want to get up until 9:30am). The soap dish in the shower was broken, but I didn't need it anyway (I reported it to the front desk at checkout). Some reviews complain of "outdated décor", but that's the point of going to a hotel like this, and I thought it was charming. They also were willing to check and hold my bag after checkout so I could continue to tour the ship. Great service from the staff. Would stay again.

Not so Happy with the Tour
The check in staff was wonderful. Very pleasant and professional. The Box Office is another whole story. Tried to book a tour @ $44.00 each (2), evening staff very unfriendly and lack the attention to detail to make one feel comfortable with the decision of the tour. She was a person of very little accommodations with information. You almost need to read the tour descriptions prior to booking so you feel comfortable asking certain questions. She seemed as if she couldn't wait for you to leave so she could get back to her phone. The bartenders were fantastic and full of information where as the tour staff just did their job and offered nothing as far as historic information. We watched Ghost Adventures and seemed to know more about he ghost tour then the staff or the tour guide. For the $90 save your money and do the self guided tour. It wasn't worth the $44.00 each price tag. Ghost Adventures the TV show gave us a better tour than our paid guide. They knew more about the history of the ship then the actual staff did.

Queen Mary Brunch
The Queen Mary is a good place to stay if you want to be away from downtown Long Beach, and you like history. I highly recommend the Sunday Brunch. It is worth the price, and the service is excellent.

Don't expect too much!
The Queen Mary is beautiful, so my h history. Perfect location. After flying across country, we arrived at 11:45. Went to check in, we were told check in was at noon however we could pay a 35.00 fee if we wanted to check in early!! Breakfast cost us over 50.00, 10.00 of which was for 2 cups of coffee!! Employees were not very knowlegable of the area. I would eat off the ship food was just ok. Definitely take the tour, the FREE tour that you receive upon check in. The other tour is over 40.00! It is worth it to see, she is beautiful.
