816 Hotel KCexperience, Kansas City

Disappointing stay. I understand that the property is under construction and that wasn't bothersome at all. Most of the staff was very pleasant. Our room felt rundown and a little bit dingy. The bed was old and hard as a board. The bathroom was very tired. Our whole floor smelled very musty. Housekeeping was very inconsistent they were knocking on our door at 9:50 one morning and hadn't even started our room at 2:45 another day when we were hoping to come back and catch an afternoon rest before a busy evening. They got busy and forgot to send the complimentary shuttle to pick us up from a museum one afternoon, they were very apologetic but it was rough. We stopped trying to use the shuttle after that. Our biggest issue is that the hotel online is billing itself as something that it isn't yet. I can see their plan and it a year or 2 it should be wonderful. In the mean time we paid for an experience that was far less than advertised.

We were upgraded to a themed room, the Irish heritage room, which was decorated very simply but nice. Still different than at room I've stayed in. I believe the hotel might have been under construction though, or it might have needed a little TLC.

They were remodeling the hotel during our stay. The hotel smelled damp, room was small and there was not a refrigerator or microwave. The vending machines area was dirty. We have never been in the Westport area, lots off bars and restaurants.

Most enjoyable with many shops and restaurants within walking distance.
