An enjoyable stay at the Mark Spencer Hotel

We staying 5 nights and overall our stay was great. We had a suite, which included a small kitchen. It had everything we needed to cook simple meals. The beds were comfortable and room was clean and nicely furnished. We enjoyed having a separate area from the room with the beds, where we could sit and chat. The staff was, overall, friendly and helpful. Some minor concerns were that there was only 1 hook to hang a towel and there were 4 of us. We ended up hanging our towels in the closet, as there was no other space for it. We also felt that our stay was a "self-serve" kind-of experience- there was no one cleaning our room unless we requested it, and we had to go down and get things like clean towels, hot water, bottled water, etc. There was no complimentary breakfast, which had been provided pre-pandemic. And there was no attempt to provide any substitute, like fruit and/or bagels or other items that we could take back to the room. But those are not major issues for us. Overall it was a great hotel located in the heart of Portland. We were kitty corner to Powells and many great shops and cafes. The tram station was just blocks away, so we didn't need to rent a car except for one day when we drove to Mount Hood. I did appreciate the hotel staff reaching out to us a few days prior to our arrival to answer questions, and confirm our stay- that was a first! We really enjoyed staying at the Mark Spencer and would gladly stay there again in the future.

      Great hotel, service, and location

Very well-appointed and comfortable Executive Suite at a fair price. The hotel is in a highly walkable area, close to numerous quality restaurants, bars, shops, and the famous Powell’s Books. Service here was excellent and the property is fully updated. Would stay again.

Great staff, close to everything, worth it

A very nice old hotel located near many fun places to eat, entertaining bars, and plenty to do. Staff was extremely friendly and even more helpful. The room itself, King Corner with kitchenette, had a very comfortable California King, a pleasant couch, decent cooking area including an electric range, plenty of kitchen items, and the best showerhead I've ever used.
