Friendly place to stay in Downtown Portland
The Mark Spencer Hotel in downtown Portland is one of the friendliest, most accommodating hotels I know of. It is an older building that has been completely redone with all the modern conveniences. Some of the rooms have a kitchenette. They offer a good continental breakfast in the morning and have a "social hour" in the afternoon. The location is fabulous, one block from Powell's books, with many other stores and eating establishments within easy walking distance. Pioneer Courthouse Square, which houses a tourist info office, is about 5 blocks away. MAX light rail stations are close (Galleria/Library for the red & blue lines, Oak St. for the green & yellow/orange lines). The Portland streetcar passes in front of the main entrance with a stop a block a way. They do charge for parking, but the rate is competitive with downtown Portland parking. I highly recommend the Mark Spencer Hotel.

Nice stay
Nice hotel downtown for a good price. Has everything you need. Rooms a little small but may be normal for area. Breakfast needs to be upped otherwise skip it and experience amazing local food. Wine hour a nice touch. Personal opinion - some of the best parts of Portland are not downtown but this hotel is close to all transport.

Very Good8.0
The check is was extremely fast and friendly. I called the day before inquiring about parking and the clerk was very kind and reserved a spot for me in their garage (the overnight parking cost was extremely reasonable, but the garage is small and a tight fit for maneuvering..... not for larger vehicles!!!). The location is perfect if you plan on going to Powell Books or touring the brewery district..... both are in walking distance.
