Great Location, but No Heat
The Mercure is in a great location close to the British Museum and two tube stations. We walked almost everywhere. The first night there was no hot water and the heat never worked throughout the trip--in January. They gave us a space heater, which helped, but it's kind of ridiculous to have this issue at these prices. As every review has mentioned, the room was small, so small it was hard to get our luggage out of the way. That said, the hotel is clean and modern, the staff is friendly, and the wi-fi is good.

Hotel staff very friendly
Hotel staff could nit have been nicer, our front desk go to person was Nickolay. He was very helpful and concerned. The condition of the hotel was good, not high end in the bathroom, but fine. We had a small refrigerator which didn't work as well as I might like. Tea and coffee available. The breakfast staff was a bit pushy. The hotel brochure said that breakfast was served until 10:30 but they were put out when we arrived at 10 and another group at 10:15 were told basically sorry, not sorry, we stopped serving 20 minutes ago. Just a communication issue needing to be resolved I think. The area is great, you can walk to several of the theaters (about 20 min or so). Lots of restaurants nearby as well.

Convenient & Charming Hotel
Love this hotel! Located just a 10 minute walk from the British Museum. The on/off sightseeing bus stops right in front of the hotel. I will say that next time I book there I will ask for a queen bed. The double was a bit smaller than expected by US standards. Great breakfast, we had it included and I would certainly recommend. The staff is very accommodating and professional, we found them to be more than helpful. They arranged transport to the airport which was 60 pounds, half that of a taxi. The area is full of great restaurants to enjoy and the theater district is about a 25 minute walk. We consider ourselves fortunate to have chosen this hotel and will be back again.

Be prepared for the unexpected.
They did not notify the customers of maintenance that possibly could have affected water pressure. As a result, I found myself standing with a half shaved face and uncleansed body in the shower when the water was shut off. Furthermore, the staff became irate as I expressed my discontent that they weren’t doing enough to accommodate my inconvenience. Thankfully, a quick call to helped dispel my unclean displeasure as I was reimbursed a whole nights rate, as opposed to the 50% which was the most the hotel was willing to offer.

Ok, but too small for price
Good location, two blocks from subway and right on Russell Square. Check in fine. Staff helpful and nice. But the room is just too small. Twin beds configured in an odd perpendicular pattern because they wouldn't fit if they were parallel to one another. Just too small for comfort and price! Even though London is pricey, this should be outside normal tourist route enough to get a better rate.

Excellent Staff and Service let down by room
Location, Service, Staff and breakfast were excellent. What let the stay down was the room (102) which was far too small. To get to one side of bed I had to squeeze past edge of bed and radiator . Also the bed was just a small double. Suggestion - why not take out radiator as it is not used for heating the room anyway.

An overall ok hotel at a central location.
It's a nice hotel overall, at a central location. The rooms are clean and tidy. Every day we had a lot of new shower gel and body wash but we didn't get any new toilet paper. The things that we didn't like were predominantly the bathroom which was clearly badly finished to the point that it had an annoying leak at the shower and the only way to avoid having a dripping sound the whole night was to put the shower head inside the bathtub. Furthermore the staff was overall polite though we noticed frequently that they were preoccupied with their phones. What's definitely worth it is the adjacent restaurant (Marco's).
