About Le Phenix Hotel, Lyon

Historic Vieux Lyon hotel overlooking the Saône

In picturesque Vieux Lyon

Le Phenix Hotel sits in Vieux Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, facing the River Saône by the vaporetto ferry stop and 2 minutes' walk from St-Paul Station. It's a 6-minute walk across the river to the Fine Art Museum and 8 minutes to the outdoor food market on Quai St-Antoine.

Funicular to Fourvière

A 4-minute walk takes you to shop- and restaurant-packed Rue St-Jean, with its hidden traboule passageways and Gothic cathedral. At the end of the street, you can take the vintage funicular railway up the hill to the Basilica, terrace views, and Musée Gallo-Romain at Fourvière.

Buffet breakfast, bar

Located in a fine Renaissance building that has been an inn for centuries, you'll find a glass-roofed conservatory-style courtyard, where a buffet breakfast (surcharge) is served in the morning. There's also a bar for drinks at the end of the day, plus a lounge area and parking spaces.

Rooms with free WiFi

Some of the 36 good-sized, air-conditioned guestrooms have mullioned windows and views of the river, others overlook courtyards. All have free WiFi and flat-screen TVs with premium channels, while room service is available 24 hours, and some rooms have fireplaces.

Great hotel
It was a two-day stay at the hotel. The room was the largest hotel room I've stayed in (in France) and my wife and daughter enjoyed the whirlpool tub very much. It was a good value.

Not same room as advertised in the website
We booked a room last minute to stay in Lyon for a night. After reading reviews on hotels.com, we felt this hotel was a good idea. Most reviews were good and photos were nice. When we arrived, the hotel had an old smell. We were given these two keys in a huge baton and told to head up in this super tiny elevator. The room had windows opening to a common area. The room was old, the carpet was full of hair and the bathroom, though newly renovated, had pubic hair in the jacuzzi tub. Needless to say, none of us took a bath. The bed was very hard and the pillows were so thin that it seemed we were sleeping without pillows. Next to the thermostat, there was a sign saying to not adjust temperature!!!! It was soaking hot there. There is no doubt the hotel has a charming appeal and is in a good location but the overall experience was not good and I do not recommend.
