It was great until it wasn't...
We stayed at Dauphine Orleans for our honeymoon. Upon arrival, the staff was courteous and welcoming. They were even running a bit behind preparing our room and gave us some additional drink vouchers so that we could relax at the bar for a bit. Our room wasn't overly impressive but it was clean and comfortable. The balcony doors were VERY hard to open and close so we couldn't enjoy that aspect. We had a late start one morning so the housekeeper, Denise, brought us some waters and asked if there was anything we needed before she moved on. She was wonderful! Even considering the renovations happening around the hotel, everything was great... until the last night. We were woken up by some inconsiderate guests smoking and being obnoxiously loud out on their balcony, which was across from ours. The smoke and noise traveled into our room and continued until 4AM. We tried asking them to keep it down but they ignored us so we called the front desk. The "security guard" came up and gestured through the window to quiet down but they ignored him, too. Around 4:15AM my husband went down to the front desk to complain one more time and was treated like he was overreacting. I realize it's New Orleans, and that you can't keep people from partying, but I wish there had been more concern for the other guests of the hotel instead of just ignoring the issue and hoping it would go away. All in all - if you're looking for a quiet spot in New Orleans to rest & relax, I wouldn't pick Dauphine.

Overall, the staff was nice. The guy and girl that were there during our check in around 11a were nice. Had some great recommendations for our group. Food recommendations were great. Offered free drink from the bar next door. Pool was good. Hours were 10a-10p. Only wish the hours were a bit later. We had two rooms with connected balcony. Very close proximity to bourbon street. I believe it was literally one street over, so that was very nice. Parking was $40ish per day. Breakfast in the mornings were fresh fruit, some pastries, cereal and oatmeal packets. The AC went out in my room in the middle of the night. I called down to the front desk at 3am a couple of times with no answer. I got up went down to the lobby to find someone and there was a staff member on her cell phone. I asked had she been there long. She said yes. So...was she purposefully ignoring the phone because her cell phone was more important? She offered to move our room across the street at 3am. No one wants to move especially across the street in pjs at 3am. She offered two fans for the room until the morning. That was ok for me, but the fact that I was ignored by phone. I had a balcony room which was nice. But man do those doors to the balcony have NO NO NO insulation around them. Literally you can see light coming through the cracks from outside. I am understanding that the environment is going to be noisy all hours, but the noise isnt even a little bit dampened.

Great location
I've stayed in the French Quarter a half dozen times over the past 25 years, and I would put the Dauphine Orleans at the high end of the little independent hotels in the FQ. But like all the little independents, it tries to squeeze a lot into very limited space. Given that, the room was comfortable, if a little cramped (but no more cramped than other places I've stayed in the FQ). Wifi was mostly very good -- slow one day out of five. Bathroom was nice, water was hot. Flat screen t.v. with a good selection of channels. Downside: having to crawl under the little desk to plug in the power to my laptop was a pain (put in a power strip on the table, or one of those lamps that has power outlets); and the chair at the desk was uncomfortable, Overall, the property is very nice. Off street parking (the overnight rates at hotels throughout the FQ, including the Dauphine Orleans, are Manhattan-like rates, however); nice courtyard with a little salt-water pool. Free breakfast was good -- eggs, sausage, breads, waffles (fresh fruit was not in much supply). There is a small exercise facility, and a wonderful bar attached. All of the staff were EXCELLENT; knowledgeable and friendly. I travel across the US about 60 nights a year, and the personnel at the Dauphine are as good as any place I have ever stayed. The location is perfect if you want to stay in the FQ, but have to go in and out -- it is on the north end of the FQ, and takes 90 seconds to get to I-10.

Exceptional 10.0
Authentic New Orleans hotel stay! Was greeted at the front door and helped as soon as we walked in the door. We came for the ghost in May Bailey's and my wife did get a surprise! The rooms are what you should expect for a building in the French Quarter. Bed was super comfortable. The issue we actually had was more of an observation. We visited May Bailey's bar every evening as this is where we were told/researched the "ghost" activity would be. Yes! My wife did have an interaction there in the bathroom! Also the bar is being remodeled, but in a good way as the guest are not completely aware. But the issue was with the bartender Sean. He was rude to the ghost tour groups who came through. He would become visibly upset and verbalized his displeasure if he did not get a tip from the groups or patrons. This would then make those in the bar feel uneasy. Leading to those who were there to leave. It was two fold, as we (my wife and I) are former bartenders. 1st we became entertained by what was going to happen next and 2nd felt sorry for the next guest to walk through the door. If the owners/management read this, you have a small cash cow sitting there and you are losing potential additional revenue while Sean remains. Having someone who can be entertaining and handle random spikes in volume would be key for this location. Again, we have thick skin; so not upset about the issue. So be for warned, its not so much the ghost, but Sean the bartender you need to be scared of.....

Not So Premium
For more than a decade, I've booked most of my leisure travel with Expedia. This is the first time I've done a negative review. To surprise my wife, for the final night of our vacation I decided to book a Premium Carriage House King room at Hotel Dauphine, since the photos and description made it seem special. We arrived a little before check-in time at 3 p.m. and were told the room wasn't ready and they'd call us when it was. We went on a walking tour, returning at 4:15 to be told the room still wasn't ready and there was no prediction as to when it might be. So much for our special night. It was recommended we accept another supposedly 'Premium' room -- "better than the one we had booked" in their facility across the street (the one they don't show in the photographs). Desperate for a room, we accepted. I'm still trying to figure out what made this a 'Premium' room -- was it the shutter on the door that flew open and hit me in the face when I entered the room? Or maybe the elongated seat on the round toilet? Who knows. The room was small, and would have been average in an old downtown hotel 30 years ago. The photos on Expedia are obviously doctored to make the rooms seem larger than they are -- the lobby, which looks huge in the photos is only about 20' X 20'. The breakfast is fine if bagels and lame pastries are your dish. If you're looking for cereal, toast or anything cooked, too bad.
