Exceptional 10.0
Hotel is great. Parking is expensive (as it is everywhere in SF), so we parked on the street and our rental got broken into. It was parked right by the hotel and had nothing inside. Not the hotels fault of course but if you need to park a car, it’s a bummer.

The room had a view of the street, but it was a comfortable room.

I was surprised to find this place remodeled and updated, was comfortable, clean and just nice overall. Can’t find anything to complain about

Lost its charm, no longer staying there.
I stayed at Hotel Kabuki a couple of times in 2008-2009 and really liked it. Then I stayed there last night and I will not be going back. Hyatt bought it and "refurbished it," and in the process took out everything that made it interesting, transforming it into just another hotel. The Japanese soaking tubs are gone. The rooms are bland and boring and are decorated in an obviously faux-Japanese style. In the morning you can get free coffee downstairs, but no free tea -- again, not even remotely Japanese. It's not that hard to set up a green tea thermos. I'm sure they've lost the majority of their actually Japanese clientele. The room I stayed in was small, which is okay. What was not okay was the desk chair. It was clearly made for someone size 12 or smaller. The seat is also slanted, which means blood clots for any skinny person who sits at the desk for any length of time. The mattress was okay only because it's less than a year old. They use flat sheets for the bottom sheet, and whoever made my bed put the flat bottom sheet on only partway, so the bare mattress was where my feet went. The pillows were far too soft and my head went right through them. Domingo, the front desk person, was dour and abrupt with me, didn't tell me anything about the hotel (including the wifi password), and seemed annoyed to be helping me. The cost far exceeded the amenities in this hotel. Seek other accommodations.
