Wrong place if you want to relax
Good things first - staff is exceptional friendly & professional - never experienced any better service! As for the rest - I simply picked the wrong place for a relaxing end to my California vacation. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing hotel this is not the place where you wanna go as it's extremley loud everywhere. I wasn't aware that this hotel is a party & event place - especially on weekends where the pool is area is a party zone with loud music & loud people! We tried to find a quiet spot on the beach - but unfortunately they don't provide beds on the beach - only chairs - not very comfortable. So the only place to be able to relax a little was our balcony - which was not my idea of spending a beach vacation. Also a major minus was that the rooms didn't have aircondition (didn't know that this even exists in the US!) & that the WiFi didn't work very good. I picked the resort as it had very good reviews all over the Internet & it definitely is the perfect spot if you have something to celebrate or any other event planned there - but not if you're looking for something quiet like we did! Rooms are clean but everything a little worn out, e.g. carpets, shower, etc. They charge you extra for parking ($ 35 per night) - should be included as rates per night are fairly high for the condition of the resort - you can tell that it is an old place. I guess they make you pay for the exceptional view & service!

Not at all worth the price!!
I understand that the location is Surf and Sands main attraction. You are smack on the ocean. However, there is NO AC in the rooms, or the room we stayed in, and if it's hot, humid, and stuffy you can not open your balcony sliding door and be able to sleep with the extremely loud noise below the room (people partying, both nights) on the beach and the heavy loud sound of the surf (not hotels problem, some people would find the loud surf sound relaxing). The 4 people in my room did not sleep for 2 nights, due to the uncomfortably hot, hot room and noise outside. There is a fan in the closet that we did set up and use. I was told by a waiter that NO ONE in Laguna beach has AC and it is this hot and humid July and August. The food was okay, there are tons of great places to eat in Laguna, go out. The guys on the beach that set-up the chair (not lounger) and umbrella were extremely friendly. The waiter at the pool, when we finally were able to get lounge chairs, was attentive and always asking if we needed anything. The coffee shop was okay, I asked for coconut milk in my coffee, 3 times, when I got my coffee they forgot the coconut milk, too bad, I had already left the hotel!! I would not pay what we did at Surf and Sand Resort a night I would, for sure, pay the extra $200 a night at the resort down the street or the one in Dana Point.

This was a mother, daughter get away with our best friends. We were hoping for relaxing days at the pool, on the beach and time to rejuvenate the soul. Instead, we were bombarded by families celebrating spring break and no where to go. The pool was extremely small and few seats were available as people placed towels on them for the entire day with no one sitting on them. The only chairs we could use on the beach were table chairs and the poor staff had to run them down to the beach continuously. The bar area was also small and noisy. Staff in the bar were not professional as they insisted we leave one evening although we had just been served because they were closing. The front patio by the valet was really the only place to escape. Sadly, the resort stopped serving food and beverages early at this location. This would have been a nice area to enjoy some privacy with live music but was it was overlooked. We attended a yoga session scheduled for the beach but the high tide effected our location so we did the class on a patio by the pool. They were not prepared and the 15 guest participating had to move tables, umbrellas & stands to make room for the class. Additionally, they didnt have enough yoga mats so we had to use towels on the hard concrete. The food from the onsite restaurant Splashes was very nice & was a pleasant surprise. We chose to go elsewhere for spa activities due to the other accommodations not being what we expected. I would continue but hope this helps others

Very Good 8.0
This is a beautiful property. The rooms shine, and have great views that do not disappoint. The food and beverage was of good quality and presentation, and front office staff is great. A few issues 1. F&B service is 3 stars, except breakfast staff (they are top notch). Things advertised aren't always followed through, you always have to ask. (for example, chips and salsa/margarita hour, I had to ask for the chips and salsa after we already waited 30min+ for the food, and they acted like they were doing me a favor). Splashes bar downstairs was busy, but I sat with nothing to drink, not even water for 20-30min and had to ask for someone to help. If you are charging so much for the F&B like the rooms, I'd expect better service. 2. Beach - there should be a note by where it says umbrella and towel/beach chairs available - with a BIG note not available certain times during the year for tide. The ocean waves go nearly to the building, so you cannot sit or play with little kids out there very easily, and no one out there to give umbrellas because it wouldn't be possible (October). 3. Splashes restaurant - when I was with my 3yr old daughter and husband, I definitely got a snobby attitude if we didn't have a reservation, arriving at 5 or 6, even though they lots of empty tables. They even sat someone right before us without a reservation, and asked if they'd be done early enough 6:30, they can seat them, then they turned us down. If was very off putting. But it's beautiful...:)

Exceptional 10.0
Amazing view! Disorganized staff!!
I never take the time to write reviews but because I emailed the hotel and never received acknowledgment of the email, I feel it necessary to write a public review. We booked a room, ocean front and arrived for check in. Upon check in the gentleman that assisted us was very friendly. However, he didn't explain the hotels amenities nor did he inform us of turn down service! We have 5 kids, don't get out much. Turn down service is great and all but not 2 hours after you've just checked in! Upon arriving to our room, we had just began making plans for dinner when our door swung wide open!! Not only did it swing wide open, the gentleman at the door proceeded to just walk in our room. Once he was halfway in the room, he realized we were inside and startled said, "uh oh, did you just check in? I'm looking for a charger" and proceeded to just look for the charger before apologizing for walking in!! We just let it be....shortly later we left for dinner and when we returned neither of our keys worked! So we headed back downstairs and told the girl working the front desk. No apologies. Nothing. Just handed us a new key. We had been checked in for about 2 hours at this point. When we got back to our room, my wife decided to take a bath! We heard a quick knock and again our door flew open!!! It was the cleaning lady! Isaid, no thanks, and she still persisted and with the door STILL OPEN (with mirrors all over the room) she FINALLY shut the door once she saw my wife in the tub!
