Nagasaki Washington Hotel, Nagasaki
Location, Location, Location
I was skeptical over the condition of the hotel over the price, but was very keen on staying next to Chinatown (food options are important to me). The staff were very friendly and helpful, and presented us with discount cards for all of the major attractions in Nagasaki. The rooms are a bit outdated, but because they take good care to clean and keep up the rooms, there were no issues with them. For a 2-night stay, the room was adequate for our needs. But the location of the hotel is really the draw. 1 block from chinatown, 2 blocks from Dejima, a 10 minute walk to downtown and shopping area, and right next to an interchange station for the street car system. It was the best place to stay to get to every major attraction in Nagasaki. Many people would consider staying near the main station, but this hotel's location cannot be beat. I would recommended staying here any time.

Great location! Standard Japanese hotel.
The location is fantastic! 7-eleven and FamilyMart are both a block away and both the streetcar and airport bus stop a block away as well. Your typical Japanese hotel. Small, clean room with a hard bed and the smell of cigarette smoke throughout, even in non-smoking room. So no surprises, good or bad there.

Great location, friendly staff, but small
If you are an international traveler, please temper your expectations and read several reviews before booking a night here. Though I enjoyed my stay at the Nagasaki Washington Hotel, fellow travelers should be aware of a few facts before staying at this hotel. Pros: The location. Situated within a 2 minute walk of the main streetcar line, the hotel is very easy to access via public transportation from Nagasaki Station. Chinatown is right around the corner, which makes for both a great photo opportunity and a nice option for lunch and dinner. Within several hundred yards of the hotel, you will find numerous convenience stores for anything you might need during your stay. The hotel staff is friendly and accommodating. Early check-in is not an option, but they will store your bags for free. They get enough non-Japanese speaking guests to the point where someone on payroll will always be able to help you out in English if the need arises. Cons: For international travelers (particularly American guests), the size of the rooms may shock you. They are small. We are talking the size of a single bedroom college dorm. There is a bed, a desk, and not much additional room, so if you are traveling with large bags of luggage, check them at the front door. The bathroom/shower setup is tiny. It is made for one person. If you are an average sized person, you will feel cramped. If you are bigger, it will not be a comfortable fit. I hope this helps.
