Comfortable and Large Rooms, Terrific Location
I'm glad that I found the State Plaza Hotel for my most recent trip to Washington DC, when many hotels were fully booked or very expensive. The State Plaza Hotel has an amazing location in the heart of DC that makes it easy to walk to the National Mall, many government offices, and the George Washington University campus next door. The hotel and its rooms aren't trendy or stylish, but the rooms are large, well equipped, clean, and quite comfortable (including the bed). If you're going for substance over style, then I highly recommend the State Plaza.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The facilities in the room were excellent and the staff very pleasant. We found the dinner we took there a bit disappointing and the dining room lacking in atmosphere. However, the real disappointment came when we tried to check out the evening before an early start. We were assured reception was manned 24/7 but at 6.45 the following morning, reception was unmanned. We left our keys and details with the Porter. However, on checking our bank statement later that day, we discovered our deposit had been charged on top of our meal. It took quite a lot of correspondence not only with the hotel but with our credit card supplier. This caused us unnecessary worry. The money has finally been refunded.

Good value, Great location.
Older hotel, both room/halls/lobby appeared to be kept up well. Staff friendly, Restaurant excellent, and able to accommodate my gluten free diet when I asked they check with the manager. There was no closet in the room, nowhere to hang clothes. There were locked double doors right inside the room, with keyless knob from room side. No idea what was on the other side. Felt a bit uncomfortable with that. Next day a staff member stated those doors would have gone to a closet. If so, I'm not sure how they could unlock them? No place for key in door knob from room side of the door. There was a kitchen in the room, which I did not use. Enjoyed the walking distance to Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial Wall, Washington Monument! Appreciated checkout time [noon] was later than some hotels.

Great staff!!! Update suites please
The staff was very friendly, hotel was very clean. Outside and front desk area looks amazing. The suites are in need of a major remodel, tv’s are very small with fuzzy pictures and the furniture seems very old fashioned.
