About Hotel Hafen Hamburg, Hamburg

City hotel in a historic seaman's mission with harbor views

Steps to the Elbe River

True to its name, which means "harbor" in German, Hotel Hafen Hamburg stands on a hill right above the waterfront. It's a 4-minute walk to the Landungsbrücken U-Bahn Station, which will take you to Hamburg's with its soaring, ornate Rathaus, or city hall, in 3 stops.

Hamburg old and new

You can take the U-Bahn 5 stops to Mönckebergstrasse, a central Hamburg shopping street with old merchant houses converted into modern department stores. From there, it's a quick, 6-minute walk to the Hamburg Kunsthalle, with its collection of paintings dating back to the 1300s.

Waterfront food and drink

The maritime-themed Port restaurant offers North German dishes with harbor views through floor-to-ceiling windows. The top floor Tower Bar serves cocktails with a view of the city, and Willi's Bierstube is like an old sailors' saloon that just happens to have great beer on tap. Business amenities include 6 meeting rooms.

Free WiFi, maritime notes

The 380 bright, modern rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows are dog-friendly, and have seafaring touches like vintage ship posters or photographs of the harbor. Rooms include free WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars, with hypoallergenic bedding on request.

2 nights stay - very comfortable
very nice hotel. almost like a museum with all the history & artifacts. Ate small mean in the pub & it was good. Demonstrations were going on one night outside of our window but it ended about 8pm. Comfortable bedding. Front desk were mostly friendly. Not overly informative. Fairly close to underground train.

Great choice!
+ Location: right next to the U3 U-Bahn (underground), river Elbe, direct boat transfer to musicals and other boat cruises right across the street, great outdoor terraces/coffee places + Tower bar (11 floors) in connection with the hotel with 360* views of the city (not to mention the great service at the bar itself) + We paid 10e extra to get a bigger room. Biggest room at any hotel so far and totally worth the extra money + Free wi-fi + Easy check-in + Extremely clean and maintained hotel room + Funny goodie bag (among other things: floss, earplugs, an apple and a condom) + Great windows and walls: we could not hear the traffic at all - If you come on a hot summer day and appreciate a cool room with air conditioning that you can adjust yourself, then this might not necessarily be the best choice for you In our opinion, we'd give this stay a 9+ out of 10

Room with a view
Great location, right in the heart of things. No air conditioning, so we had to leave the windows open. Area was hopping until 4am. Not the hotel`s fault, but noisy area when trying to sleep. We thought it was near the boat pier we needed for a cruise, but it wasn't. Check where your cruise leaves from. But a lovely hotel.

Dangerously hot, window does not open, No air cond
Horrible hotel. No air conditioning. Window was locked and would not open.Complained four times. Not just extremely uncomfortable but unhealthy and dangerous . Temperature in room was 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit. Not four star quality Hotel staff was rude, unhelpful and I was told I would have to contact because I booked through them. Got very little sleep. They would not change my room and said 4th floor room windows do not open. Reception walked away from me after raising her voice.

HIdden Gem off the City Center!
My 2 nights’ stay over was good. The hotel room had no air conditioning but fan cooled. My room was backed into the railway track but it was not too noisy. The hotel is located a bit off the city center which requires about Euro14 for taxi to take us from the Central Train Station to the hotel. But if one takes the Underground Train which has a station only 4 minutes away, the hotel station is only 3 station away from the town hall station. The best thing about this hotel is that it is close to the harbour. Hence, there is a lot of very good food and restaurants available, especially on the street of Ditmar-Koel. In short the hotel is located in a very up scale residential and office neighborhood. It has sister hotel adjacent on the other side of the compound which charges Euro20 for a morning breakfast buffet. But one can just go to the Italian Restaurant of Luigi’s on Ditmar-Koel for a full lunch at half the price.
