This is a unique and beautiful property. A family home that became a museum, it was recently restored with the original, century-old frescoes of Portuguese country life lining the walls of the staircase and lounge. The rooms are large and well-appointed with high, decorated ceilings and antique furniture. The owners, Maria and Joao, and their able assistant, Ana, will go out of their way to make you feel at home. The included breakfast is superb, with a wide selection of cold cuts, cheeses, fruits and Portuguese pastries. A ten minute walk downhill (Porto is hilly!) brings you to the historic district, with many fine shops and restaurants. If you're looking for a classic homestay, with genuine Portuguese warmth and hospitality, you can't beat the Palace Museum Palmeiras!
