Very decent for the price
The room was clean and comfortable. The furniture and decor are a bit outdated, but if you're willing to overlook that, it's well-situated in downtown Oakland near great restaurants, nightlife and the convention center, and it's very reasonably priced for a bay area hotel.

Quaint Little Hotel
We went to Oakland for a Sunday Reggae nite at The New Parish and Heiro Day, and decided it better to stay the night. The hotel is so quaint! LOVE the elevator. The room was clean and cute. I would definitely stay here again. Right across from the over priced Marriott! They do use the Marriott for parking, but since this was a holiday weekend, we just parked free on the street right across from the front door! Their bar is closed on Sunday, but the Smart & Final next door had beer, wine and liquor, so we went there. No problem! It was a good stay.

Came to evaluate places to live for an upcoming relocation. Location was great in the middle of downtown and very walkable. Room was clean and spacious. Parking garage situation is kind of annoying, you have to park at a different garage across the street and get a pass from the hotel every time you want to take your car out and parking costs $15/day. Continental breakgfast was fine, but definitely nothing special.

Stay somewhere else
Do not stay here. I never leave bad reviews for hotels, but people should know that they should not stay here. I have had $10 hostel experiences that were better than this hotel. I travel frequently for business, and try to stay in local hotels rather than chains when I have the opportunity to do so. This hotel was (the only hotel) recommended by the Design Sponge Oakland City Guide, saying that this hotel guaranteed "an authentic Oakland experience." I'm going to give Oakland more credit than that. The hotel itself could be great -- but it isn't. It is run-down; service is horrible; the "bar" consists of three or four bottles on a shelf in the lobby, and is not open (even if you just need a glass of ice, which is not available anywhere else); the rooms are poorly put together; bed is horrible; street is noisy; shower had very low water pressure and randomly alternated between freezing and scalding; there was a dirty towel in my sink when I got there; the door to the hallway locked only with difficulty. Although my room was not available 30 minutes before their check-in time, which I totally understand, I only saw one other person staying there while I was there -- and he said that I was the only other person that he had seen, as well. This neighborhood does not seem safe for women traveling alone at night. Like I said, I love a good local hotel -- but this experience has me wanting to stay in chains from here on out.
