Major Renovation Going On
We always stay at the Embassy Suites at Seaside when we visit Monterey. However, this time they were in the middle of a major renovation project and it definitely negatively impacted our visit. We were not told they were renovating until check in and by then we felt it was too late to find another place to stay. On the positive side, they knocked $60 off the two night stay price after we asked for a discount. In hindsight, I wish we would have stayed somewhere else. The second day of our stay they turned off the water to the whole hotel for 7 hours. That meant we couldn't shower or even flush the toilet! Coming in from the beach that was very problematic not being able to cleanup until after 5PM. When we were checking out the next morning they slipped another flyer under our door to say they were going to be doing the same thing again the next day. And because of the way embassy suites is designed, all of the construction on the interior of the hotel created a giant dust storm that hit you every time you opened your hotel door. We felt like we had to hold our breath and run from our room to the elevator each time to try to not breath in all the dust. The hotel staff was very gracious and did their best to minimize the impact on the guests. I will stay here again but not until they are finished with this renovation.

renovaction not noted
We always wanted to stay at this hotel-- unfortunately they were going under a major renovation( walls town down, 1 elevator for everyone to use, jack hammers , make shift check in area. No one noted any info about any renovation.

Disappointed
Very disappointed- hotel was under MAJOR construction and I was not aware until the moment I walked through the door and was told we would have no running water for 2 hours. It was also scheduled to be shut off from 11-4 the following day; thank God I only had one night booked. After traveling 4 hours with 5 kids (including a 2 and 4 year old) we couldn't even use the restroom or wash up. I would have turned around and walked out the door, but I had no idea what else to do but stay. There was no lobby, no beautiful atrium area Embassy Suites is known for or anything luxurious for that matter. I booked this hotel because I've stayed at ES many times before and loved it, but this experience was unacceptable. Not to mention the lady who checked us in and the server making happy hour drinks were not hospitable to say the least. The only reason I gave any stars for service was because staff running breakfast and lady who checked me out were very hospitable. I will not stay here again, no matter how wonderful their construction turns out because of this experience. I had to express my concern at check out and was given $50 off my room which was way overpriced ($280 a night) for no running water and tarp lining the outside of my door.

Mislead substantially on the renovations
The best thing about this hotel was the indoor pool and the breakfast buffet. Unfortunately, the expansive reconstruction made our stay very challenging to the point where we ended up receiving a credit for both nights. The website mentions the renovations, but failed to mention things like the entire atrium area was closed off and a pile of rubble, the vending machines and ice makers were completely out of commission and that the water would be cut off one hour before our checkout time, which forced us to have to check out earlier than we planned. To make matters worse, the front desk staff failed to mention that breakfast ended at 9am on weekdays, which forced us to find another place (and spend additional funds) for breakfast after checking out on Monday morning. I am sure the hotel will be fabulous once the refurbishments are completed, but in the mean time, this property should be closed until the work is complete or discounted substantially for inconveniencing its guests.
