Great location
Very central location and good value. Staff are very friendly. Room was pleasant and decent size, but a few drawbacks: no elevator, beds are narrow and not very comfortable, shower hot water was variable, windows have thin curtains which let in the light at dawn. Good breakfast, but best to avoid the tired restaurant at night. Generally a good option if staying in the old city.

A Perfect Stay!
We were so very pleasantly surprised at how lovely the room was. We had a beautiful view over the red rooftops seeing all the way to the valley bellow. The room and the rest of the hotel was well decorated and exceptionally clean. Staff met us with an honest smile and were so very helpful along the way.

It was in a fabulous location. We were surrounded by the charming chimes of magnificent Church bells and the welcoming management and staff who were exceptionally warm and helpful. Our only issue was the lack of a mattress topper on our joined single beds which the owner assured us was an unusual error. We will be unreservedly recommending this hotel to our family and friends.

Lovely breakfast, Paulo accommodated us for an early flight, very kind. Restaurant menu looked very good, we did not eat there , but would if returning. Rooms spacious and airy, comfortable beds and bedding. Welcoming and very cosy.

We absolutely loved our stay at Il Sole. This is not a Hilton or a Marriott, I travel frequently and you can get those hotels in any big city. These are people who treat you like family. It’s a small, family run hotel and restaurant who are almost welcoming you into their house. The last day there we had a very early (2:30 am!) flight out and when I stopped by the desk that evening to ask about how we check out in the middle of the night, the lovely young lady who had also checked us in said, oh, I’ve been waiting for you. Not only did she let me know how to get out in the middle of the night, she had packed to go breakfast for each of the three rooms in our party! Good luck finding that level of service at any big chain. Also, this sounds small but the shower water pressure is like a fire hydrant which feels great if you’ve been out all day walking like we did. They were so accommodating, I must have sent 25 emails asking questions and they never blinked. And, they also put up with my entry level Italian that I’ve been learning. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Bergamo is a lovely city in Citta Alta. You need to make sure you know you are staying sort of up on a hill and to get down you need the bus as cars, taxis, Ubers are limited. But with help we figured it out all and become pros at Bus #1 into town each morning and then the Bergamo train station. Also if you stay here we did the Bergamo Free Walking Tour with Matteo which was awesome! We will be back Il Sole!

Staff was kind, accommodating (we were able to store our luggage outside of check-in and check-out times) and the location was perfect for exploring the Città Alta. The room (small for US standards, but pretty standard for EU) was clean and had everything we needed. The only thing we'd have welcomed just because it was a hot August day was airconditioning to help cool the room down, though the fans provided helped. The included breakfast was generous and super tasty with breads, toppings, fresh fruit and delicious hot drinks (my son had a hot chocolate that he says was the best he's ever tasted!).
