Hotel del Angel, Mexico City

Check in very late and they took soooo long. Beds were noisy, pillows were flat. When asked for more pillows they said they had none. Couldn’t lock the door. Housekeeping knocked once and walked in at 9am woke us up. 4 channels on tv. Internet slow. No AC. Next day they did allow us to check out at 3pm no extra charge because of complaints. Location was perfect.

The hotel is in a great location and close to all important sites. I have stayed at this hotel twice a year for the last few years. This time I made a hotel reservation and when I arrived and was assigned my room, it was a room in the non-remodeled rooms. The room had mold on the window sills and the wall floorboards were very dirty. The room smelled as if someone used the restroom minutes before we entered. I brought it to the attention of the front desk and the gentleman was very dry and advised that my reservation was the room that was given to me. I advised that ever since they remodeled the hotel I had. It ever been given one of those rooms. The receptionist told me sorry there was no way he would change my room and the hotel was fully booked. I contacted Expedia's customer service and the representative was very helpful and she was able to contact the hotel and resolve the issue. The hotel actually did have a room available (when the receptionist said there we no rooms) ... I changed rooms to a remodeled room and installed myself for the night... I requested a 9am wake up call and the next morning we were never called .... in addition as a reservation of 3 persons the room was only equipped with 2 towels and one packet of shampoo and two small round bar soaps... An additional towel was requested and after 25 minutes we called and canceled the request... The management was advised and they offered to give us an additional hour to check out a little later.

The hotel is greatly located, near public transportation, main avenues, malls, attractions... Its quite a good deal compared with other hotels around... On the other hand, the cleanness of the hotel is quite poor. There were food marks on the floor (from previous guests), the side tables and by the tv were completely dusty, same as the chairs... The water from the shower comes somehow to the bathroom...

Definitely not a four star hotel. Unfortunately this hotel was a disappointment, despite the staff being efficient and helpful, and the location also being good. The price is very high for what they offer. Our room smelled musty, perhaps due to lack of ventilation (there is a small window that opens less than a span). When we arrived, we did not receive the remote control for the television. I called reception asking and they said they didn't know if there was a remote control for our room. At the exit we were asked for the remote control... I justified saying that we had not received and there were no problems. We stayed two days without internet access in the room (1st and 2nd of November). On the evening of the second day, after complaining for the fourth time, an employee walked upstairs and solved the problem. The lighting in the room is pretty insufficient. There is only one light for the whole room, making it hard to work at night. A bathroom lamp was burned. The curtains are not blackout, with the sun entering the room early in the morning. There are large glass windows, but they don't open. There is no air conditioning, only fan. The bathroom ventilation is completely inefficient, there is no exhaust fan and everything gets really damp. Apart from the location and the staff, it is not worth staying at this hotel. Look for others, even cheaper, in the same location or in the Zona Rosa.

I liked that it is close to the us embassy and surrounding area. Other than that, the windows were not cleaned, the bathroom was not in its best shape, we received 2 towels, but we were 4, there is not a/c, and I could continue. I know this is not a 5 star hotel, but it's not even three.
